Previously, you could deduct
Previously, you could deduct the total alimony paid from your taxable income. You just had to submit the 1040.pdf with your income tax return. However, from this year, you can't deduct alimony from your taxable income. You don't have to pay tax on the total alimony received. Before 2018, it was considered as income. Hence, you had to pay tax. But not anymore.
