Tax Lein & Home

Wasn't sure if this was the right forum or not! I will try to make this as short as possible.

Was talking with a friend of mine and didn't know the answer-hope someone does. She was checking her annual credit reports and saw a tax lein from feb '08 on all three, much to her shock. This comes from her husband working at family business and when they incorporated, his name got put as secretary-in name only- no benefits. He went to work for another place a few years back to get on insurance for their sons.

Was told that his name had been taken off all papers since he knew nothing about the finance part,etc, a few years back after he found out the company owed a lot of back taxes. They never have heard a word from anyone until she saw the tax lein. His sister took over the company and apparently hasn't paid in full yet,either.

Someone told her if anything comes from it she can file injured spouse, or innocent spouse or something. But she is worried, they have small children and are afraid of loosing their home. BTW-her father quit claimed the house to her solely about 4 months ago. They also got a state tax refund last year.Someone else toled her that she needed to have her husband quit claim to absolve all interest in the house since they are married.

I just looked at her with a stupid expression and told her I would ask here--I have no clue to tell her where to start or what to do. Sorry this is so long and thanks in advance for your help..karen
