I’ve heard from my friend Lisa that her electronic tax filing was rejected as it has been already filed. Someone else had filed in her name. I’m wondering how is that possible? How can someone else file my tax in my name because I have to give the money anyway.

Contact the IRS immediately and report the fraud if you think someone is using your ssn to get tax refund or a job. Check if IRS has sent any notice or letter indicating a problem. You can send a copy of your police report or an IRS ID Theft Affidavit Form 14039 and proof of your identity, like you Social Security card, driver’s license or passport. You can also put a fraud alert on your credit report

Thank you for the suggestion. I will definitely inform my friend Lisa about it. I'm just wondering, somebody has used her identity; that means, somebody has come to know about her SSN and other details. It's scary. Can it also affect my credit score if my identity is stolen?
