It's that time of year again...W-2's, 1099's and 1099-INT's are arriving daily in the mailboxes of consumers all over America.

There are many different ways to use your tax refund - pay bills, buy furniture or other large ticket items, sock it away to pay for a future expense...

What are your plans for YOUR refund?

Those are all such great plans, everyone! Fins and Tammy, that has got to feel good, to be able to save the money or do whatever you want with it.

Mine is going to buy a new vehicle (mine is dying a slow painful death!), and pay off bills. A small amount will go to buying new clothing for myself and my sons, and stocking up on groceries.

We'll probably get some tires for my son, that's on disability, he sure doesn't receive enough to do anything, and my car needs 2 back tires. I'm just really gratefull we receive anything- for years we were paying the IRS!! Probabaly the rest will go into savings until we see what LVNV is going to do with us!!..KAren

Well, I'm going to live on mine since I'm unemployed right now. I will get unemployment checks but I also am planning on settling a credit card bill next month. I'm still waiting on my W-2's but they are supposed to be mailed tomorrow from my former employer. If not, I might have to trade my car in for something newer.

I haven't decided what I am going to do with my tax refund. I thought about putting it toward a new car but since I will be through with a few PDLs in the next couple of months, I was going to hold off on the new car and just put the money up. Maybe catch up on my offerings in church which is what I really want to do.

But honestly, it is like Izzy with her 8 million dollar check on Grey's Anatomy. Maybe I will put it on the refrigerator and wait for something to happen to see what I will do with it.

great idea, songmaven! Funny, I started this thread last year..and here we are a little over a year later, and part of my refund went (again) to a new vehicle! But, last year I was not in a position to have a monthly vehicle payment, so I bought a cheap "beater" vehicle just to drive back and forth to work, knowing it would probably only last me a year or so. Now we have a nicer, newer vehicle that will likely last us at least the next 3-5 years...but also have a monthly vehicle payment. But at least we can afford it now! :D

When I recieved my refund, I 'splurged' a bit. Bought my son some things, he needed ( not necessarily what he wanted..) and paid off a few 'small' debts.

That's crap!

Leah, listen to me. You need to contact the IRS immediately! File an application for injured spouse relief right now. That should get all of your money returned, since you filed separately. There's some info about it in the 1040/A instruction booklet, and tons more on the IRS website. If that don't get your $$$ back, call the IRS and talk to them about it. If you still gots no joy, contact the Office of the Taxpayer Advocate. Lemme know how it goes, please.

Leah--wulf is 100% correct. AND, I would check with the IRS to see if you could file that same injured spouse claim for any of the last three years as well that they took your money. It doesnt matter whether you filed separately or not--you cannot be made to pay his obligation. Thats the whole purpose of the injured spouse--to protect you in this case. Think about it--in divorce, you cannot be made to be accountable for any debts or obligations he had before you two were married. This is no different.

The form you are looking for is called Form 8379--Injured Spouse Allocation. You need to fill it out and mail it in to the IRS. Now, it will take them several weeks to process it, but youre getting positively shafted right now!

Tax refund gone! Paid some bills, had to buy a new toilet, bought some groceries, got my medication for my heart and took the 3 of us out to dinner, plus put some in my son's account so he could have a little extra for whatever he needed until he got paid again on the first.
