I sent dispute letters to the CRA's and I recived a form letter that basically explains what can and can't stay on the credit report. This is a general letter and does not address any of the items I disputed. What is the next step??? Does this constitue a reply within 30 days???

Let me tell you what kind of response you can receive for a dispute letter.

  • A letter stating investigation has begun
  • A letter your request has been forwarded to the respective authority if any
  • A letter asking for more information
  • A rejection letter with proper reason of denial
  • No response at all

 If any one can figure out any other kind of response please put it here.

Now the reply you have received does not fall under any of the above headings. Did they send you any dispute form with the letter? Chances are they did not recognize the format of letter that you sent. Credit bureaus might have their own prescribed format. In that case you can fill out the new form and resend it. Also attach the copy of your previous letter with the certified mail number.

Or you can consider calling their number to discuss your next move. Keep us posted with this topic.

Right Stanley!!! When I disputed with transunion, I got a letter back like the one adelgado got, but also with a form that they wanted me to put the dispute on. Guess they had a certain format that they use and thats how it must be done.
adelgado---which bureau was your letter from?? :) Shirley

adelgado,

You have not mentioned the name of the credit bureau. IMO, you should call them to know the purpose of this letter. Hope their contact number is listed over there. Since they have mentioned a file number, chances are investigation has begun. So call them up and decide your next move. Also keep us updated on this matter.

Hi Stanley!! Yes, I sent my disputes back in to Transunion using the forms that they sent. I did, in fact, hear back from them and they were able to make some changes to my report. Actually, they were like the easiest of the three bureaus to work with. I knew it had to be transunion that Adelgado had gotten his letter from, because I had gotten the same one. Only they mailed me a form to go with it.

Oh and by the way (DING DING DING) my 600th post!!!!!!!!! Shirley :D
