My credit has been excellent for ten years. Today I received a collection letter from an agency who names a LLC company as the current creditor and OSI/Gulf State Credit as the original creditor. Is it safe to ignore this letter? I have never heard of OSI/Gulf, but I believe they may have bought an old charged off debt from a credit card company. There has been no activity on any of my charged off accounts for at least ten years. If OSI purchased the debt, shouldn't the credit card company be listed as the original creditor? BTW, all of my old debts are past the sol. Thank you for any feedback.

You can't be forced by any collection agency to pay this debt as it is past the SOL period. Since they can't take legal actions also, ignoring it won't be preferable if they have hit your credit report. You can confirm it by pulling your latest copy from the three bureaus.

If you find this collection agency appearing in your credit report, send them a letter asking to remove this item from your file as it past the SOL period. Also, this debt has crossed the seven years reporting time as per the FCRA laws.

You do not need to hesitate contacting this agency as you are on the stronger side. Ask them to stop all collection efforts and remove any negative items if reported in your file.

Hope this works at your end
