Did not know about validating debt until finding this forum

I have paid almost $3000 to them, $200 every two weeks, did not know about validating the debt etc until finding this forum recently, and have never received any documentation despite many verbal requests. Knowing what I do now with the suit against them etc I do not want to send them anymore money, but I'm terrified that if I don't this Friday (I send it every other Friday by MoneyGram) that they will start their harassment again and cause all kinds of embarassment and problems for me at work or even call my family....can anyone advise? Can I send a cease and desist and no phone contact letter after paying them for these several months? Their phone number doesn't even work anymore it is just a name of some other company and no one answers. Can anyone advise? Info is greatly appreciated.

Hi Guest,

Keep the receipts of your payments made in a safe place. This is the only proof you have about clearing your debt account. Ellis Crosby has been pulling money from the people illegally and it would have been best if you had done some research earlier.

Ellis Crosby is undergoing legal actions and it has been recently heard that the company has filed for bankruptcy. So, they are not the ones who will give you any proof of your payments received and they will not update your accounts.

Some time later, another collection agency will contact you for the same debt account and you will be able to provide this proof of your payment. Hopefully, they will be kind enough to understand your story and update your account with the bureaus.

It is also suggested to file your complaint against them to the attorney general office in your state and the FTC and the BBB. Bring out the complete story of how it all happened and request them to file legal charges against them.

Your complaint will also serve as a proof of being scammed by Ellis Crosby and hopefully you will get some justice in the future.

Do not worry. Stay calm and keep your receipts in safe place. Talk to your lawyer and file a case against them. You might get some restitution.

Thank you so much for the info, can you give me any advice as to what to do if they do call and start to harass me? Does anyone know if they have still been harassing people recently? Thank you again, this forum is wonderful.

Some people still receive the harassing calls from Ellis Crosby. It is because the company is preying on the innocent ones so that they have the chance to still recover some $$

Your best move will be to start recording their phone calls. Many people have done this and reported that they stopped calling after knowing that the calls are being recorded.

Have you sent a cease and desist letter to the company? I heard there is presently no one at their address to pick up the mails. But you can always send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. The most that will happen is that it will return back with a failure delivery. But the point identified is that you have taken actions to stop the illegal collection calls.

You also have the option to take some legal help. Hire an attorney who specializes in the lawsuits of fdcpa and FCRA violations. He will file a case against them and this will make your actions stronger.

This is the address to contact the company.

Guest - I dont blame you for not wanting to pay Ellis Crosby anymore, especially after learning about their illegal and abusive collection tactics, however, since you have been paying them then you should contact them via certified/return receipt letter and request documentation regarding your debt as well as the balance owed. That way you can review your payment receipts and verify they have properly applied them to your debt. Verbal requests are not going to work with them. If they send you the information, and if the information is true and correct, then you shouldnt have any problem with continuing to pay them until your debt is settled. The main thing is to make sure the money you have sent them has been properly applied.

So, far in the last six months, I have never heard Ellis updated anybody's accounts. It is because they were involved in illegal activities right from the beginning. They took the money sent through Western Union but was never deposited to the debt account.

But anyways, as suggested by Tracy, if you can hear your money gone to your debt account, I will withdraw all my bitter feelings for Ellis. But I am pretty sure, they just can't become good to someone.

Thank you all so much for the feedback, they haven't called yet but would like to be prepared if they do, I have seen some good validation letters on this site but am struggling with how to word one in this situation where I have already been paying them, does anyone know if there is one out here somewhere that would work I could use as a template so I can be ready for them? I feel like I just keep asking for help here and am not contributing much but I hope to in the future, I hope you'll just accept my gratitude in the meantime for all the help and advice.

In your situation where you have been already paying towards the account, you need to get a financial statement from the company. This statement will bring out all the details of your account. Here is a letter which you can tailor according to your needs.

Quote:

YOUR NAME
ADDRESS
CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE
SOCIAL SECURITY #
ACCT #

CREDITOR NAME

CITY, STATE, ZIP CODE

Date:

To Whom It May Concern:

My credit rating was negatively affected by your entry to the that showed a past due status of my account with you. I have since satisfied this debt. Therefore, I request that you submit a statement to that reflects the fact that the debt has been paid in full.

Thank you for your attention to this request.

Sincerely,

Your Name
