I've been doing some more reading and I think I have confused myself once again. I'm sure with these online payday lenders, I probably signed a voluntary wage assignment. I'm trying to find a website that would explain it in the state of Ohio. Should I contact my payroll department to ask them to contact me before processing such a thing? Just in case it might happen with Sonic or someone. Does a digital signature count?

Digital signatures do not make the wage assignment legal. Besides, there are other requirements that need to be fulfilled to give it a legal shape.

Please read the thread given below and let me know if there are confusions. Wage assignments are governed under the federal laws.

Sonic is one of the tough companies to deal with. But they have also accepted the payments before putting the wage assignment in legal shape. Do let me know your take.

I am going to e-mail my payroll department at work tomorrow to see if and when some wage assignments come in for me. I'm sure Sonic will try one way or the other. I will just let them know I have entered a debt consolidation program for these debts and not to approve the wage assignment. I work for a big corporation so I'm sure they've experienced it before.

Hi msmishele30

Keep in touch with your payroll department so that they can inform you about any wage assignment letter sent to you. You have the legal rights to revoke it if the wage assignment is found disputed.

In the meantime, explain this situation to your debt consolidator so that he can negotiate with Sonic for a fair deal.

Hi Ben,

I notified my payroll department today and they are checking into the matter. I also contacted my debt counselor and they are in the process of negotiating with Sonic today. Also, I sent them a certified letter stating that I was revoking the voluntary wage assignment. I sent that today to Sonic as well as faxed it to them. So we'll see what happens.
