I'm a single mother of 2 young children & I was wondering if it would be a good idea for me to consolidate my dat? I get $369 a month for the 3 of us so I'm living with my mom & I'm in debt $3696 & climbing. I would appreciate any & all help. I would also like to know of some places that you may trust more than other's .
Thank You

Welcome to the forums. The $369 a month you mentioned, is that from FIA or some other source? Is it at all possible for you to get a job while your mom watches the children.

The debt you talk about of $3696 really isn't that bad compared to to others. consolidating your debt would fairly simple and you could even have this paid off in a year possibly if you had other income.

Let us know if we can help in any other way.

Regards-
Mike

Yes the money's presently from the state. My mom is on disability & can't watch my kids. My daughter is 5 & my son is 2. We don't know where their dad is for child support. Presently I',m not allowed to work on Doctor's orders. I've tried disability myself but they said I'm too young & don't have enough in there yet. I just don't know what to do & with school, doctors, & basic neccessities I'm barely making it. I'm also sorry about the spelling.
Thank You

If your mom is on disability then you could possibly qualify for child care when you start work again. If you claim that the family member you had in mind to watch your kids is unable, you can get a credit for child care.

Also, when you said that you applied for disability, where did you apply and who said you were too young? This is actually something that suprises me, as I'm still in college and recently got something from Social Security saying that I qualify for benefits now. This means that if I were ever unable to work, those benefits would kick in, and I'd get a check at the end of the month.

I'd also talk to your case worker with FIA and see if there is more they can do. If you're not able to work, there has to be something they can do.

And not to worry, we all make spelling mistakes. No one is worried about that on here.

Mike

Hi Jessemmyryan

Welcome to the forums.

I am sorry to hear that you are facing so many responsibilities at this young age. I feel that you should try for some disability discharge. A certificate from your physician stating that your physical conditions are deteriorating will be helpful.

Also, in the consolidation program, there are various tailor made payment plans. You can choose the program that suits to your present financial situation. Discuss your problems with the consultant. I am sure that he will be able to offer you some better options.

Roxette

Jessymmyryan...
Most importantly..try to wake up every morning with a smile and lot's of love for the little ones. I'm sure you are feeling very scared and alone, but try to focus on the fact that you have two little joyful creatures who know nothing about money or disabilities. Check in your county for an Early Head Start program. They have tons of free services (and will even come into your home)to help you with the children and possibly get you training for when you CAN go back to work.
Also, make an appt with a counselor in financial eligibility within your county. They are normally located in the Human Resources division of your County and could be found in the phone book. If your mother is also on disability you may qualify for secion 8 housing.
I'm sure that your debt consolidation situation is taking up a lot of space in your mind right now. But it sounds as if the situation you are in qualifies you for numerous programs available through the state and Federal governments. Try to spend some time focusing on using the resources available to you also, so that you can feel empowered in taking control of your life and taking care of your kids. It's a lot of paperwork and headaches but there are people everywhere who will help with that part.
Final note!! READ to your kids everyday  Sorry, it's the mom in me..they will LOVE it and it doesn't cost a thing!!

You should be able to get child care for free or a very reduced rate. When my children were small,I remember alot of my employees at work were paying next to nothing for thier kids to go to Kindercare, while I paid $150 a week for before and after school care. There are alot of programs to help those who have kids. You should visit the website of your states Social Services, there you can see everything they offer. They will even pay for you to go the school, then maybe you can learn a trade that you will be able to do with your medical condition.
If you dont have a job, they cant garnish your wages,I dont know what kind of debt you have, but some credit card companies have insurance built in your payment, just incase you lose your job,to cover your payments until your working. You might want to call your creditors and see what your options are.Good luck,I hope everything works out for you.
