My daughter who does not live with me - whom I currently have no contact - listed my phone number as the way to contact her on a credit card application, QUITE SOME TIME AGO. She obviously now has a credit issue, and the collection agency persists in calling both my phone numbers, regarless the fact I have told them repeatably she does not live here, I don't know where she is, and to STOP calling me regarding this issue. The group calling - Account Solutions Group - ignores the fact I have told them she does not live here and has not - for almost 2 years. I understand the following:

A debt collector can discuss your debt only with your attorney, a credit bureau, the creditor, and the creditor's lawyer. However, the debt collector can contact other people to find out where the debtor lives or works.

But how do I - who has nothing to do with this debt what-so-ever - stop these NOW harrasing phone calls?

ADVICE???

Your best move for this is to send a cease and desist letter to the collection agency. Stop them from contacting you in future once they receive your C&D letter. Look into this sample letter. It will give you an idea how to draft it.

Send your letter through certified mail with return receipt requested. The collector must not make any types of contacts with you. If they do, they will violate the federal laws and you get the stand to file a legal case against them.

I just wanted to follow-up again to this string of notes and thank you ALL again. I guess it's my nature as professional and just being plain human - that thanking people for their help is never out of fasion or something that can be overloed. I don't want to get onto a soapbox - but WAY too often - people don't have the common courtesy to just take that extra moment and say something or do positive. For example - ALL the things that the people who run this forum do - on a daily basis, asking nothing in return. Those are the kind of people I appreciate ... and hopefully - this little note will cause whomever MIGHT read it - will prompt others to reach out and be thoughtful to others that might just need it. What a better country and quality of life this would be!

OK - I've said my piece ... thanks again to you all!

Touseled-thank-you so much! You and I think alike! People,or some of them, only take what they want, and never reach out to help others like they have been helped. If everyone would "pay it forward",just think of how much better we would all be.Thanks for the kind words,it's nice to know the community is making a difference :D ...Karen
