I can imagine! I want to go to California. I've wanted to go there for a few years now. Maybe this year, we'll finally be able to go. I lived there when I was in my early 20s for about a year and loved it. I couldn't move there now, too many ties with kids and grandkids here, but would love to visit. Where do you want to go for vacation?

My daughter works for an orthodontist. This guy takes his whole office and spouses/significant others on vacation every year, all expenses paid. Last year they went to Oruba (is that the right spelling?). Jenn liked it except she said there were lizards everywhere, even in the pool! They're going to Mexico this year. He took them to Las Vegas a couple of times and gave them each $100 "gambling money." They went to Disneyworld one year. I would love to have a boss like that!

I know. My daughter looks forward to it every year. The only drawback (for her) is that they can't take their kids. That's good for me, though, because I usually plan my vacation around the week that she'll be gone, and I get my granddaughter all week.

First off - no one borrowed money to go on vacation. Get your facts correct.
Second - Who said we still HAVE debt. Many of us are out of debt, and are here to help others solve their issues as we have.
Third - most of the companies did *** up. Charging illegal fees. Operating in states without a license. Using illegal tactics in attempt to collect on fake or fraudulent debts.
But guest - I'll be nice. If I win Lotto, I'll be more than happy to send you on vacation. Where would you like to go?

It's definitely illegal discussing your personal info with anyone. Everyone tells that the staff in Paul Kupferstein's office are jerks. Read this link and know more about their business.

Can I sue them for discussing personal information with my supervisor?
P.S. Why is the thread locked - shouldn't people be aware of these con artists and the way they conduct themselves. I am almost certain that there are many others that this company is trying to prey off of and people should be made aware of how they operate so they don't get taken advantage of.

Of course, yes! Know from your employer what was asked about you by the collector. If it's proven to be a personal info that should not have been discussed with a third party during collections, the company can be sued for the federal violations.
The thread was locked when this forum was having guest postings and people from Paul Kupferstein were throwing their craps without anything real and making personal attacks on the members. Anyways, now it's obvious that these anonymous people won't come and post because they have to register first and make themselves identified.

Many have had contact from Mr. Kupferstein/Liability Solutions/"The Law Office". Most have been very poor with threats and intimidation. We have yet to see anyone NOT associated with the company come on and talk of a good experience with them.
seeking info
This morning I recieved a call from Mr. Hazel, a lawyer looking for my daughter that lives in another province about an urgent legal matter.
He said I was listed as a contact but could not give me any further information without my daughter's verbal or written consent.
He gave me the case number, his firm's name and phone number. He was polite and articulate but a gut intinct led me to google Paul Kupferstein which led me here.
I have not read all the posts but enough to worry me.
Is this a collection company or a law firm? My daughter is young, with a "fresh off the farm" kinda naivety, definitely not equipped to deal with the threatening tactics I have read that this outfit uses.
I cannot say that she doen't have any debts, I know she has had payday loans before. She was raised to respect her credit rating and pay her bills. I have also read posts reguarding bogus 900 bills created by a virus. Can she get this virus if her phone isn't hooked plugged into the modem and she uses high speed? She only got her computer this past Christmas.
Can someone advise me as to how to explain to her how to handle these guys? I didn't give them her contact info but agreed to pass the info on to her to contact them.
I don't want some clown intimidating and scaring her into sending them money.
Thanks for any help you can provide me.
They like to claim their are a law firm. To the point they call
They like to claim their are a law firm. To the point they call themselves "The Law Office". Through a lot of research, Paul Kupferstein is the only person in the office that is a registered lawyer. The fact, is, no matter what they claim to be - they are calling in attempt to collect a debt, and by both Canadian and US laws, that makes them a debt collector, and as such, they MUST follow the fair debt acts of both countries. If you have read this and other threads, this company tends to do nothing in regard to this. YOu may get a call from a Juan David, Steve Sargent, or other names that will threaten you will jail, court, arrest and other false fears to force you to pay via Western Union. Don't fall for them.
First and foremost, and even to the point that the call may be legit - you have to right to have the debt validated. If he calls back, request debt validation be mailed to your home. You have the right to know the creditor and the amount owed. If you and your daughter have NOT received this, they have no case against you.
Now, in regard to the virus - not really. The 900 deal is a trojan horse program that installs itself and then dials a 900 number, causing huge phone charges on one's bill. Most phone companies waive the charges. It's just that Kupferstein and his cronies buy up these debts and try to threaten people into turning over money for something they don't owe. You can download a simple spyware program to find out if any of these 900 dialers on on her PC (I recommend Spybot - nice and free). However, since she is using high speed, more than likely, she is unaffected. Though, I do hope with the high speed she has both a virus software and a firewall software. Windows Firewall blows chunks. For good free software, run AVG Free for viruses(you can search google to find that) and then Zone Alarm is decent (probably need to get the free version of that from download.com or oldversion.com).
Biggest thing - do not fall for their threats. You have the right to know who she owes and the exact amount. Until you know that, they CANNOT arrest you.

I just received a message on my home phone today, I tried to call the number back (905-474-3535) and was connected to AC Neilsen Market Research. I googled Cooperstein & Assoc and was led to this site....I am contacting my attorney general
MR. DAVID AND MR. SERGEANT
Today i got a call from mr. David at paul kupferstein's (law office) from ontario canada. Same story, only our bogus 900 calls were back in 2003 and it is 2007 - 4 years later they are filing a suit unless i pay them within 24hrs == after freaking out, i checked him out on the web and got to this site-life saving really - lost my husband, have 4 kids and going through bankruptcy, this was about all i could handle. I'm reporting them. God bless you.
Paul Kupferstein
This place is nothing but a scam. Mr. Sargent called my house on Tuesday morning at 10:35am 2/27/07 saying that I needed to call him back at this number and that I would know what it is about. The next day he called at 11:05am 2/28/07 and left a message saying there is a investiagtion on my phone number, and I need to call him back within 24hrs or legal action will be taken. Well I called him back and he told me that I need to paid 1993.01 by noon on march 1st 2007 or he is taking me to court and I will have to pay 3100 dollars for the lawsuit and everything. He tired to tell me that I never paided off the 900 number calls on my telephone bill when I had all my statements where I paid. trust me I was under alot of stress over this bully. Well this morning I called Attorneys, Attorney Generals, I even called law firms in Canada about him and they couldn't pull up anything on him. i am glad I didn't pay him any money at all. My biggest problem is I told him to fax me documents stating where I need to pay this much money and he told me no its all in the courts hands now. I called the courts Gave them my name and everything and they had nothing. So please if this happens to you like everybody told me this morning is to ignore it. I have a police officer coming to my house to hear the message on my answering machine and I hope that he will be caught and nobody goes thru the pain and stress my family has gone thru in the last 2 days.

I was left a message that stated a pending law suit was being filed against me in court. Upon speaking with them, I stated that "if a suit has been filed, I would have received documentation stating such". Then I was was told is hasn't gone through yet. NO KIDDING! They will say anything to get you to call them back and if you know your rights, that infuriates them. When I asked for debt validation, they told me I should know what I owe. I told them (Mr. David), if a company has hired them to collect from me, then they have all the particulars and shouldn't have a problem sending them to me to verify the amount. They didn't like that and that WAS OVER a year ago after Mr. David threatened me that I was going to go to jail if I didn't pay up approx. $3,000.00. Such bull !@$%.
People have to remember that everyone has rights and they don't follow the rules so when someone actually challenges them, they hang up never to be heard from again. The prey on weak victims with their scare tactics.
If it comes down to them actually taking someone to court, bring it on, then this way the judge will see exactly what they are trying to scam people out of. These cases never go to court because the firm knows they can't win (get the kind of money they threaten for) so they try to imtimidate people.
It is so pathetic that they are still up to no good nonetheless, they haven't changed a bit how they operate. All my conversations are taped - upon re-playing them to another person, they got the impression that they are experts in verbally harrassing people, furthermore, they think not only verbal but physical threats as well - not a smart move on their part.
In any event, they don't stand a chance against people who know their rights and this forum (amazing tool) has certainly helped people in becoming aware of this boggus "law firms" tactics.
