Ari started the adorable cat thread some time ago. I have two cute kitties, but I'm a dog person myself. So..Tell me about your dogs! This is my precious American Bulldog, Howie. Howie is 3 years old, and weighs 90lbs. Howie is a girl..She's named for Oakland Raiders great Howie Long. All of my animals are named for football players. She loves to play tug, she snores, she hogs the bed, she has terrible gas, and she has no idea she's not a person.

I'm kind of new here but couldn't resist. I love talking about my dog. Her name was Bruiser (yes, it's a she - my brother wanted to name her). The name, though couldn't be further from the truth. She was a medium-sized shephard/collie mix with a shephard's frame. She was afraid of little poodles! We had a neighbor whose poodle was forever chasing Bruiser. I'd be so embarrassed when Bruiser would run away from her! She was really great with kids - not so great with guys with beards. We had a neighbor who, every morning on his way to his garage, would knock on my kitchen window, Bruiser would look out the window and Jeff (my neighbor) would hide and then play peek-a-boo with her. Ever since then, she didn't trust men with beards (he had a beard). once when some friends of mine came over, they brought their 2-year-old daughter. She was playing with the knob on my stereo. Her father got up to move her away from it. Bruiser growled at him, and he had to sit back down. He didn't get back up until they left! He's not the only one, though. I've had sleepovers, and the moms and dads would come to pick the kids up. She would growl at them. I guess she didn't want the kids to leave!

Finsfan13:

Yes, that was several years ago when my kids were small. She was a lot of fun - for them and for me, and we have a lot of great memories of her, so no need to be sad for me. She lived 16 years, which is pretty old for a dog, I think.

Howie looks so cute - I'll bet he's a lot of fun!

Fins-Howie is too cute-has little fat rolls like mine, too! I'm a dog person too. My mom bought this Yorkie and named it Fred,it's a girl. So I got a shih-tsu and named her Ethel. Well, Fred and Ethel knew they were human, and I spoiled them much more than my kids! I had to put Ethel to sleep a few months back and it almost killed me-poor Fred is still grieving for her, they were raised toghether.Ethel was 9 and all of a sudden got really sick and had liver cancer,so I'm glad she isn't suffering anymore. I really would like to get another dog,but Fred couldn't take a puppy!!...Karen

I can't stop myself from posting here. I also have a dog. He is a very cute dachshund and is almost 10 years old. There are so many things that these pets do and their activities become a part of our daily life. We just can't live without these silent members in our family. And they also have the same feeling. I will get a pic of him and post here. Unfortunately, I don't have a scanner attached with my computer.

Fins, I really understand what is going on in your heart. Sometimes, when Buzzu (my dog) sleeps on my arms, it is tough for me to change position when he is snoring. A sudden movement makes him open his eyes for a while very slowly and understand what's going on. When he understands that everything is fine, he stretches his legs wide apart feeling that there is nothing to be alert. It an understanding between psychologies of two living creatures.

Buzzu is very short tempered. He gets angry on small things and cools down immediately if you pat him. He doesn't like people who dodge him for fun. He is very affectionate towards small kids. People who don't know him often find it hard to understand what his next reaction will be. He just loves to scare them on that. But he doesn't do anything to small kids. I have seen babies playing with his tail and he is watching their movements curiously. Had it been someone else, imagine. He doesn't even allow me at times, if he is having a bad temper.

Anthony, I think you have a wonderful relationship with your dog. I really respect that in a person..It tells me a lot about them.

My Howie loves to wrestle..She likes to play-bite the side of faces and climb on top of you when you are laying down and pin you. I like to poke her in the side when she's sleeping. She starts to get angry, and her downturned mouth starts to move up..until she has an actual smile. It's really cute, because the fangs hang out on either side of her mouth, and her lip quivers, and she looks mean! But she's a big, spoiled baby.

Thanks,Fins, yeah,I am so sensitive when it comes to animals. My youngest (son, that is) was in the hospital or ER most of his life when he was younger, and i toughed it out during all the tests, etc. But anytime my dog had to have something done that was serious,I ocouldn't watch!...Karen Anthony I bet your dog is a cutie too!

fins, I don't know if you know this..

Dogs also need to get their nails cut. Because that keeps growing and they can be hurt if they have big nails. It's painful when a grown nail breaks. The nails need to be cut right from their small age. You can't do that later because blood keeps clotting inside. I came to know about all this when Buzzu was 5 years and it had been impossible for me to cut his nails. He will never allow me on this. He becomes ferocious if I give him pain. But if you are able to cut his nails since his small age, he will allow you always.

Great Karen, because you did it.. But mine one will never ever allow me. I even tried with a cover on his muzzle, but you know what happened later..... He tried to tear it off having tears in his eyes. I swore, I will never... I had this fear if his jaws get wounded just for the heck of cutting the nails.

Nails are tough..We got Howie from a bulldog breeder that did not take care of their puppies. Bulldogs are usually $1000+. I always wanted a bulldog, but couldn't afford one. Then three years ago I see an ad for purebreds for $175. I went to the house, and saw 6 adorable pups and 2 mean looking parent dogs. They had no papers, but the parents did, so I could've registered Howie if I wanted to, but why bother? I don't care about her pedigree. I picked out Howie, and took her home. Within the first week I noticed she shied whenever we tried to pet her, and she shook when we cuddled her. Plus, she still had her dew claws. She was only 9 weeks old, and she was terrified of people. She was obviously abused. It took a few months to show here we would never hurt her, and she became the most loyal, loving dog ever. But we can't cut her nails. The vet has to do that.

I like Dalmatians. They are one man dogs. They will only listen to their master. Actually, these dogs treat those people as their master who serve them food and spend time with them. So, it is possible that he will overlook his master if he is not the one who feeds them. Interesting psycho..

I like Rottweilers a lot. I also like Jack Russel terriers. I have had two terriers in my life, and both of them were terrible chewers.

I grew up with poodles. My parents always had at least two of them. They are yippy little dogs, but definitely sweet and loving. People always say that they're not good with kids, but we've found that to not be true.

I always wanted a little bull dog or pug,but when we were looking, they were way too expensive. All my neighbors hate me because they know if they are mean,or don't take care of their dogs,I turn them in. We had one who just threw the food out on the ground for his Labs, and they hardly ever had water and never had any shelter from the rain or cold. One day one of them got loose in my front yard. I heard alot of yelling and peeked out my blinds, and he was beating this poor dog. Well, hell hath no fury for a woman seeing that! I went out there with a pistol and told him if he touched that dog one more time I was gonna shot him  I also told him I was going to call his work,he's a fireman, that they would be interested in his anger management problems!!...KAren

Gun weilding Bossy..what a vision! I knew I liked you for a reason!! Kudos for that...I once did the same thing with some little boy who was beating his yellow lab with a stick while he was trying to walk him...I chased that little boy with a bigger stick and told him I was going to his parents and tellin' on him.
Hey fin??? How ya feeling my friend???

Liz,you have such a cutie pie-it's funny how dogs like peanut butter. Plus it's funny to watch them get it stuck to the roof of their mouth! Not gonna be on here much the next day or two probably. I had two teeth break off and over the weekend my face is the size of a baloon, they became abcessed, and can't see out of my left eye. Called dentists to see who could pull the cheapest, none cheap! They want me to come in this pm to give me antibiotics to get the sweeling and pain down before they pull. I figure if I post 2,000 more times, that will ablout cover it  Sorry for the typos, can only see out of one eye.Plus I have a heart valve problem that makes this pretty serious, the poison can go into my heart, and none of the idiots will let me pay it out,so we'll see what happens-wish me luck!...KAren
