You said wage assignments attempted, means they haven't started
You said wage assignments attempted, means they haven't started taking out money from your payroll, right? Definitely inform your payroll in writing and send a revocation letter to the company. Send your letter through certified mail and return receipt requested. Is this done?

I pm'd you chagrin. Just e-mail/fax/send them a wage assignment revokation letter. Most states do not recognize this anyways. You must have a court order to garnish somebody's wages, they are hoping you don't realize this fact.

Thanks everyone, it's cash transfer centers and I have faxed the revocation letter 2 weeks ago. So I guess I need to still do it? I have been notified by my Payroll lady because I informed her it may happen, a week ago. I told her that they are tyring it and I revoked their permission to do so 2 weeks ago in writing - doesn't seem to be enought though. Tell you what - my landlord will evict my ass if they take my money, I won't be able to pay her

Your employere isn't allowed to give them your paycheck if you have notified the employer that you revoked this voluntary wage assignment. CTC can attempt as many times as they want, and in order to garnish a person's wages there must be a court order to do so. You will be ok. Just don't back down. Slam them continuously with the contact info I pm'd you, e-mail and fax it mutliple times a day, they will eventually stop. They are idiots, they think you don't know your rights.

See, your payroll should understand that CTC is on the wrong. If necessary, show them this forum and make them realize that they should be prepared if CTC comes looking for another person in their workplace in future. In any case, CTC should not get the money out from your account because there are many violations filed against them.
Yes, I emailed a copy of the letter I faxed, to my Payroll lady.

You must also remember that wage assignments need to be signed IN PERSON by both parties. Faxed copies back and fourth are NOT allowed.
Your payroll department really won't have a way to distinguish this, however, so you must write a letter to the lendor stating that you will be taking care of this personally, and that you are revoking the wage assignment. You might want to also state you know the laws regarding assignments, and that they are TOTALLY VOLUNTARY.
Any action after you revoke the assignment could be considered harassment, especially if you've stated you're working on repaying it. Better yet, send in a partial payment/money order with the letter to show you're geniune on repaying.
Regards
Mike

Don't know if this will ease somebody else's mind, but I was told by my Payroll department, "We won't be deducting anything from your wages unless we get an order from the court."
So, unless something like a court order appears, I should be fine.
Thanks to everyone who gave me info!! I still have other debt, but at least this one was taken care of - now hopefully they will agree to me offer of paying over time.

Chargin, Tammy is right. They are not gpoing to take you to court. Especially since in most states they are ILLEGAL. Like she said the list goes on and on. I am glad you got your payroll straightened out. KYSIDE38

CTC tried this with me a few weeks ago. They're including a FAQ about Wage Assignments in their letters to the payroll dept., which is full of incorrect info. I guess they think the general public, payroll depts. included, are a bunch of morons. I wonder what their success rate with payroll depts. is with regard to getting people's wages garnished. They were asking my payroll dept. to deduct the principal of the loan ($300) plus an extra $139 to be taken in one payment. This is quite a bit more than what I actually owe them! That would be an unpleasant surprise for someone when they got their paycheck if payroll went ahead and processed the garnishment.

Yeah, I think that I was lucky enough to find this website, otherwise I would have been clueless to the whole wage assignment thing. I don't mind paying them at all, I just needed a break due to a snafu.

I just got the mail at work and there was a plain envelope addressed to the payroll dept. It was from Cash Transfer Centers and they basically said in the letter that they were cancelling the Voluntary Wage Assignment. The letter said if the payroll dept. had already sent a payment from my wages, they would gladly return it upon receipt!
The address for the "credit granting institution," Northway Financial Corp. Ltd. is Malta, as I've seen in previous posts about this company, but I actually faxed my revocation of wage assignment letter to a British Columbia number, which is where their calls to me were being made from, so I guess they got it.
