does anyone know this number 732-231-6372? They called me at work Yesturday stating that I would be arrested if I didn't send them $650.00 the same day. When i said that I can't do that they said well your file will be down loaded today and that it will be sent out state wide. When I said I wouldn't be able to pay until the 17th they then dropped the payment to $550.00. Then He told me that he would try and present my case again to the original company to see if they would allow me to pay on the 17th and for me to call him back. So I called him back, when I called back he said that thewy would allow me to do that. He also said that the payment is now $535.00. He said that the call is being recorded and that I must call him every two days to let him know that I still agree to pay on the 17th. After the phone call I decided to research the comapny because I didn't feel right about the whole conversations. When I did that I found this website and some othe complaints against them, but I still don't know what I should do. Can someone help me quick?

Kish - did you read this thread:

Should give you a good basis of what has happened to other members.

Threats of jail and arrest - standard words from many improper collectors. Threats like that violate the Fair Debt Collection Law. They are not allowed to make such threats. Main question: Has this company verified the debt with you via post mail? If not, stop in your tracks and don't send them one penny. They are required by law to send you written proof of the debt naming the creditor and the amount.

Trust your gut feeling. Call them back and ask them to mail you proof of the debt. If they refuse, go to the "Do it youself" section of this site to get a sample letter you can mail asking for debt validation. Until you know who it is and what you are paying for, don't send any money.

If I showed up on your door and demanded $500, would you give it to me? Well....I am kinda cute, BUT STILL.... :) No, you wouldn't. So be safe.
