mrsfhen2001,
The Staute of Limitations only prevents legal actions, they cannot sue you for the debt after so long a period of time depending on what state you are in. BUT, until the matter is resolved, they can say you owe them a debt for any length of time. They can even report it on your credit statement indefinately. Do a debt validation letter, this forces them to look over their records and perhaps catch a mistake or at least explain the debt. Make sure you send it certified mail. This should give you some enlightenment and set you on a path to resolution. I hope you get this worked out, I love stories about people that went back to school with happy endings!
