Can I find out how the collection agency got my phone number?

They probably won't tell you. They have resources they can use to find out information.

If they have some of your references on file, they might have called your refs and came up with a story to coax your phone # out of them.

They might have called some of your other creditors listed on the credit report and "shared" information.

They're sneaky, and good at finding new info on people.

Your credit report, property, utilities, city hall, phone book (online), your social security number, credit report, neighbor, relative, your place of employment, business license, unclaimed property, so many ways of finding a telephone number that is yours or could lead to you.
