Keep doing your payments to HSBC. Be sure that the balance is coming down with your payments. Deal with the CA separately. You are sure about them violating the fdcpa. This gives you enough reasons to file a lawsuit. Even if they have the debt with them, the details should be first put in writing. And they will collect only the outstanding balance after all the payments done to HSBC. HSBC is accepting your payments; I will continue with it and won't be bothered to pay anything to CA.
There is no rule on providing the purchase amount from the original creditor. You may put a request to the CA but I doubt if they will give you this info.
