Customer Experience

Based on BBB files, this company has an unsatisfactory record
BBB Definition:

unsatisfactory record - A company has an "unsatisfactory business performance record" with the Bureau is based on the experiences reflected in BBB files. This file condition results when the company has failed to resolve or respond to complaints, repeatedly failed to respond or resolve issues in a timely manner, failed to resolve the underlying issues for a pattern
BBB Definition:

pattern - More than 2 complaints involving the same allegations usually within 12 months that are significant in relation to the company's size and volume of business.

of complaints, failed to honor their commitment to mediate or arbitrate disputes or honor mediated agreements or arbitrated decisions, failed to substantiate, modify or discontinue false advertising claims that are challenged by the BBB, or failed to discontinue unauthorized use of the BBB name and logo, a Federally protected trademark.

with the Bureau due to failure to respond to a complaint. However the business has resolved
BBB Definition:

resolved - The company resolved the complaint issues.

most complaints presented to the bureau.

According to inquirers and complainants, the firm contacts consumers stating that the consumer has been pre-approved for a loan from an indisclosed source, and that, for a fee of generally about $75, the firm will put the consumer in touch with funds available to them. The Bureau generally cautions consumers against paying an advance fee to receive a loan. "Advance Fee" Loans are widely illegal. No consumer should pay unrecognized fees in advance of receiving a loan or any service. Some fees, such as those that might be charged for assessment of the value of a property used to secure a loan, may be charged prior to the closing of a loan, but such fees are clearly disclosed and explained. Many times, such offers of loans are simply a means of connecting consumers with known loan companies (many of whom might already be known to the consumer and might be nationally-advertising companies) and the advance fee is simply paid to the contacting party as a means of collecting a fee for services. In point of fact, there may be no actual connection between the sender of post cards, e-mails or other notices and a particular lending institution. In this case, the Bureau has confirmed the registration of the company as a loan broker with the State Banking Commission. It should be noted, however, that loan brokers do not typically supply loans, but make introductions and participate in arrangements between loan companies and the public.

When considering complaint information, please take into account the company's size and volume of transactions, and understand that the nature of complaints and a firm's responses to them are often more important than the number of complaints.

The Bureau processed a total of 30 complaints about this company in the last 36 months, our standard reporting period. Of the total of 30 complaints closed in 36 months, 30 were closed in the last year.

I too, sent in my 75.00. I received a voicemail from Steve, supposedly the GM, stating that my loan would be guaranteed. He also went on to give me all of my rates and terms. I received the info from "universal Financial" which now says no guarantees and requests 55.00. After reading this, I returned my money order and have called Steve to request a refund of my 75.00. Has anybody else had this experience? Have they gotten a refund?
