I just made a post last night about Bass Associates. Today the calls got even worse. The Bass call was for a loan with FTR. But today I got a call from a Middle Eastern-sounding man named Tom Jackson with United Processing, claiming to represent Astro Lending.

This is the worst I have ever been treated in my life. Having read the forum on here I have become very knowing about debt laws. When this man called he first identified himself as being with the federal recovery system on behalf of the government due to federal bank fraud. He told me it was due to a loan with Astro Lending. He then said he was from United Processing. I said I had never received anything in writing from him. He said I was a criminal and I was going to jail. He said that they don't have to provide anything in writing. I asked for their address, so I could send a debt validation letter. He said "I am not lible to give you our address. You are a criminal. You committed bank fraud. Pay off your account immediately."

I asked for and was transferred to a supervisor. He treated me even worse. He also refused to give me their address.

Their phone number is 305-433-8368.

I called Astro Lending and they said that Ellis Crosby collects for them not United Processing and they are not aware of United Processing. However, she said that Astro actually sells the debt to ICollect, and then ICollect has Ellis Crosby collecting for them. I left a message for someone at ICollect.

I have dealt with Bass and other collectors. This call was horrific. It was 100 times as bad as any other debt call I have ever had. I am sick to my stomach.

And I thought Ellis Crosby was supposed to be shut down, out of business. I remember dealing with that I-Collect place, they were impossible to get a hold of. I just kept calling over and over and over until someone finally answered. She was just as shady as everyone and she didn't want to give out their address.

debt collectors are becoming a big pain!!

Even if you question them about your rights, they will not listen to anyone. They will continue with their same scary tactics. The best thing will be to sue them for fdcpa violations.

Quote:

"I am not lible to give you our address. You are a criminal. You committed bank fraud. Pay off your account immediately."

It clearly shows FDCPA violation. Check with your state laws before you can start recording their phone calls and collect legal proof. Not providing the debt validation and causing harassment or abuse add up to the violation. Consult an attorney and file a lawsuit.

Do not let this creep or any others scare you. You already have taken charge by reading through the posts here and are aware of the methods they use. Stand strong, become a member on the site and you can get a free phone call from a debt counselor who can give you some advice. Plus, you can come on here and vent your frustrations at collectors and ask questions. Everyone always has something to say to help someone in a time of need. Please consider it.

Like you i recvd a call from them about a pdl I have for $200.00 they then told me I would be arrested in 1 hour unless I pay them $879.00 I asked where they got that amount and he just kept yelling at me. I had already made arrangements with the payday Loan place to pay the $200.00 so i called him and we called this place on 3 way and they had nothing to say. they would not even speak anymore. I called my local police and they told me that the check is a civil matter and they would laugh at that man if he called them and asked them to come arrest me.

sounds like another bass and associates story to me.....but I dont know for certain. I do know someone in here that might be able to tell us, and I will send him a link to this thread. Maybe he can drop in and help us figure this one out.

Anyways, when it comes to PDLs, you cannot be arrested. To all of you, the best advice I could give you is check to see if your state allows you to record telephone calls without the other party knowing. If they do allow it, go buy a recorder and tape each and every call. Once you have them on tape, go find an attorney and sue them for the violations they have committed. Pretending to be a government employee, cop, or attorney is a violation. So is threatening something like arrest--they cannot threaten you with any action that they cannot take. Record the violations and sue the heck out of them.

I did a google search for the phone number, it comes back as Prelitigation Inc. Now onto what you have them on so far.

1. fdcpa violation, failure to provide meaningful disclosure
2. FDCPA violation, threatening criminal prosecution, if you do actually owe them anything, it is a civil matter, not criminal.
3.Impersonating a federal agent. As they are implying that that they are under some type of law enforcement division of the federal government
4.My personal favorite (aside from impersonation); extortion (I checked on this) since they are demanding payment less they incarcerate you, it constitutes extortion.

Time to file reports with the attorney generals office, police department, FTC, and the FBI.

Please file with a fdcpa complaint. The more the govt hears of experiences like ours the more likely they will do something about it!
These collectors are motivated by money - they are paid on commission & obviously will say anything they need to to up their commission check!
Caller ID is one of the top 10 best inventions of our time. Use it if it's available to you!

Erica - did he indeed take out a loan with this company?
Even if he did not; he needs to use the contact information he has and send them a revocation on a voluntary wage ASSIGNMENT. This piece of info is contained in some PDL contracts. Basically stating that if a person defaults on the agreement the company can submit the ASSIGNMENT to payroll & get their money. An ASSIGNMENT can be revoked at any time for any reason. Have your fiance send this to them ASAP. Certified receipt so you'll have proof of your action.
If its a wage GARNISHMENT - that requires a court order (With the order, yes they can have a paycheck garnished).
Dont fret - how much did he borrow and how much has he paid back? What state do you/he reside in?

The United States government does not hire collection agencies to make people pay back to a bank when they have defrauded a bank. They get arrested, no phone calls, no warning. If you had actually committed any type of bank fraud you would not be able to post anything as you would already be in jail awaiting your trial.

BTW, to add to that, how about impersonation of a federal agent?

If you dont have recording devices, GET THEM. Save answering machine messages.....they are GOLD!!

I will share someone I was taught in collections about recording calls. Even though in some states it is illegal to tape without consent, state AG's offices, the FTC and even the clients of 3rd party contingency placements will listen to the recordings and will take action based on those calls. 2 party consent calls without consent wont be admissible in court, but it doesnt mean you wont be able to sue...they are a trump card regardless of what the law says. I attended more than one collection conference where this was discussed and cases were brought up where the CA was nailed without consent on the calls. The agency that I worked for drilled into our heads that all calls might or could be recorded and to collect accordingly.

Dude,

Get a tape recorder and tell these people that you are taping the calls. Keep detailed records of who called, when, and what was said.

You can't go to jail over debt unless it was fraudulently obtained and even then (look at the number of identity theives arrested--i.e. NONE) it is unlikely.

Hang up on them and send them a ceases and desist letter return receipt requested.

Her name is Hillary Romano and claims to be calling from State Predisposition Services.
Yesterday she said she was calling from Jacksonville, FL.
Today it's Georgia.
She said that I am staling federal regulated funds and that she will show me that I am not above the law.
How do I stop these people?
HELP!
Thanks

I received a call from Tom Jackson and he scared me into paying $850.00 on a $300.00 loan. I was so naive and stupid to pay, but I did. I also receievd a call from a Susanne Thompson, who I've found out is from Bass and Associates. She threatened me with a civil suite, but was actually kind of nice to me. I told her I would call her in a few weeks. She stated I had to pay $750 on a $300 loan. Now, at that time, I was getting calls from "Tom Jackson" was calling me and threatening me. I have not heard back since August.

Since it is tax season - I have heard from some old payday loan companies trying to collect their outrageous fees. Apparently replaying the principla amount wasn't good enuf for them. Oh well. I have a standard reply to all of their threats and amazingly, they hang up on me once they hear me say "I'll see you in court".
Gee - how come they don't want to go there? I wonder!

First of all I know this was an old post from last year Shelly L do a new topic so people here can help direct you and of course No nonsense, the funny thing is more and more people like you are being prosecuted and duly so.....can't go to jail for owing a debt(people do run into problems-look at our economy), but you can get in trouble for harrassing. Our own government doesn't even charge what you so called fly by night operations do-most of you don't even have leg to stand on.

This morning I received a phone call from a company called united processing, I spoke to a gentlemen, stating that I owed money for a payday loan totalling 700.oo, He advised me that I wrote a fraudulent check and that I needed to pay him the money now to prevent myself from going to jail. I advised this man that I don't write fraudulent checks and that I don't want to discuss this at my job. He then stated that If I don't pay him via western union by the end of the day, He will have a sheriff come to my home or job to arrest me. I hung up the phone on him, he called me right back and asked to speak with my supervisor about this issue, I hung up on him again, he then called back stating that If I hang up on him again, he will call every employee he can reach within my job and tell them about my situation. I told him that this is harassment and to stop calling me. He called a total of 20 times. Later on, This lady by the name of Kimberly Jones called me attempting to collect money via western union as well, I advised her that I am aware that this company is a fraud/ I advised her to stop bullying me and to not call me again. When they realized the scam wasn't gonna work with me, Carmen Ivan started calling from an unknown number asking to speak to my 13yr old son. Please Please Please do not fall for their scam. They can not take you to jail for a civil case, they are not law enforcement, report this to ftc and your state attorney generals office or the office in Jacksonville florida. Lisa Waters, Kimberly Jones, Cynthia Swick and Ivan Carmen are all frauds. The company showed up on the caller ID as united processing out of jacksonville, FL. 904-727-7116. Please do not fall for the scam.

i just got a call today. these people are insane. they want me to pay $1135 for a 300.00 loan are they smoking crack? i have been late on other pay day loans but those companies charged me a small fee and i got them paid off. these ppl called me from florida claiming to be officers, then the woman messed up and told me she was two different people. it started out.. I am Ashley Brown and i am a police officer. if you are a police officer then why are you calling me from a "collection company"? then she said her name was Kelly Bella and Ashley Brown. i am thinking how many personalities does she have? then she leaves a message saying only God can help me. this is hilarious

United Processing has bought the accounts of a Pay Day Loan that went out of business. I had an account there 4 years ago and almost had it paid before they closed. No contact or anything. United Processing contacted my relative, told her I had won some money and they needed to get in touch with me asap, where did I work? When I called them and asked why I didn't get any kind of statement or proof of a debt. They said they were going to garnish my wages. I need to pay this in full. Over 1000 dollars when the original debt was 200 and had been paid down to 115. I asked them not to contact my relatives, they said, they could call anyone they wanted and to forget it, they would just garnish my wages and she would have the sherriff's department on their way and hung up on me. Kimberly was her name. I am not even working???? FRAUD!!!! I have contacted BBB and the Attorney General's office. I want everyone to know about them. They will not answer their phone when you are on to them. They only want you to give them financial info over the phone. No collection agency can charge 800.00 fees!!! SCAM!!!! Beware. United Processing is a scam. They buy your information and try to get your money without proving you have a debt. What misleads you is that they tell you the name of a business you may have owed at one time. BE AWARE!
