Hi, Katsmother

Welcome!
If you haven't already, go to the "how to deal with collection agencies" forum and post this there. That way you'll earn debtcc points, which are worth a penny apiece, for your posts--as will the members who reply.

Mostly, those of us who follow that forum will be able to find you and answer your questions more easily.

Best,
Diva

Hi again.

I thought I was replying to a post in The Pub.
Obviously, Kat'sMother, you're in the right place. And very welcome.
You might want to search this site for some of the CAs that you're dealing with. Those threads should have a great deal of basic advice and give you a good idea of whether or not those agencies are legit.

Sounds to me like you need to find the one agency that actually owns the debt.

Is this debt something really old that slipped between the cracks? It may have just gotten handed off many times.

But if 8 collectors are actually calling you about the same account, that's awfully extreme.

Have you pulled your credit reports yet?

Best,
Diva

Waaay embarrassed!

Ok, im confused. Do the companies who someone owes sell the account to the collection agency or do the agencies phish them out?

I dont understand how an an agency can have an account that isnt valid. I understand mistakes in spelling and such where the account is in error, but a legit account that they are not legally allowed to collect? I get the SOL concept as well.

Hmmm....
