When I was evicted there was no help. Everywhere I called said they were out of funds, no section 8 (cook county is at least 10 years before it will reopen). I can't rent an apartment, and even low income won't assist me because I was evicted. Illinois is the worst state to live in because there is no help here. Not even my local church, St Gertrude's of Franklin Park, IL would help me. The priest told me point blank to go somewhere else and that they don't help with funds. Catholic Charities was out of funds in Oak Park, IL and the Salvation Army intake told me that they couldn't help me in Norridge, IL. They offered me clothes, but that didn't help me at all. Now I'm offering to give my landlord $800 every two weeks and he told me he wants it all in 2 wks. I looked at a few apartments that don't require credit checks, there was rats and roaches and the landlord didn't even bother to clean up before showing me the apartment. I don't know what to do or where to go, and for a single mom, who's children's father is illegal and facing deportation there is no help that is readily available it seems for me.
