Just telling them over the phone won't work. You will need to send them a cease and desist letter, via certified mail, so you know they received it.
Have you validated the debt with this company to be sure it is yours? If it is a valid debt, have you set up payment arrangements with them?

sjvalleygrl, you must show proof of their violating the fdcpa laws after receiving your cease and desist letter. The receipts of your certified letter will be required along with the recording of their phone calls with the date and time and the name of the caller. Make sure that you know about your state allows if it allows secret recording or taking permission of the other party. They can backfire if you violate the laws while doing the recording.
