Moved to England

I am american and moved to England in 2003 after I met my wife who is British.
I moved to England as she has three children from a previous marriage who regularly see their father.
When I knew I wanted to marry her and move over here I had some credit card debt that I had been paying off quite regularly.
I am not sure exactly how much I owe but there were a few credit cards I had in my late 20's with that I was silly with.
I wrote to each one informing them that we were going to live in England and I gave them the full address and asked for their patience whilst I found work. As soon as I found work I would carry on with my payments. None of them answered.
I got a job immediatly over here in the trade I worked in over in america and I was very shocked to see the pay was very poor compared to in america.
WE were not allowed tax credits for sometime until I had been here a certain amount of time and we had rent to pay on the council house. Even if they did get in touch with me there was no way I could afford any payments.
It seems since 2003 our situation has not got any better.. and have been unable to pay anything to any of them. none of them got in touch with us but are constantly calling my parents house in america and sending letters.
We now have a child of our own so that is six of us living at home on my wage.. a small amount of child tax credit and now a mortgage. There is no way I can pay anything to these people.
I guess my question is can they get me here in the UK?? Can my parents say something or do anything to stop them calling?
my mother and father are quite old.. and they both know our situation over here so they will not give out our address to these people ..even though they were all given it in the first place.
My mother tells them ' he does not live here anymore.. he moved away, stop calling my house.. this is not his home' one lady told my mother that she had a inconsiderate son.

I do not know if they can try and collect from you while you are in the UK. I would imagine that eventually they would quit callng your parents number. I went through this with my brother when he gave our phone number as his number (when he had no phone). After a while when collectors would call we would just say there was no one here by that name. Eventually they quit.

Laws differ across the borders. If your creditors want to sue you, they will need to do it in America only. Filing a case against you in UK will be tough because it falls under different jurisdiction. However, they can pursue collections if they have any affiliates or a network in UK.
You are in UK since 2003 and it looks like you never did a payment since then. Maybe, the statute on these debts is already expired or is going to be in the recent times. Can you mention the name of the state where the account originated? No one can sue you after the debt is past the statutes.
Your parents can write a cease and desist letter if a collection agency is calling them. Collectors are bound to follow the federal laws. They must stop all communications after receiving a cease and desist letter from your parents. If they still call, your parents can sue them in the court for violating the laws.

I will get my parents to write that letter as soon as possible.

SOL in Massachusetts is six years. The company may take you to the court until the SOL expires. If you plan to return to US for vacation or for a temporary stay, you might have a judgment waiting in your name.

when you say judgement against me what does that mean?
Should I still get my parents to send the letter you advised about and should it be worded a differently in some parts as I noticed it says 'we will contact them direct'
