There are a few items listed on my credit report that i would like to pay to get removed. I am quite sure that these debts are valid and mine. What steps should i take in paying these off? Should i still send a letter requesting validation?

U want to see who the company is so you can contact that company to see what debt it is, unless it states it on your credit report. Or if you can check with the orginal company you owed and see if they still have record of your acct. If they do pay the orginal company

i did contact the original companies and they stated that they can no longer accept payment and that i need to pay the collection agency to get the item removed. the easiest thing for me to do would be to call the collection agency and see if they would accept a settlement of x amount of dollars and then if they accept just pay them by phone. But is that not safe to do??? what should i do step by step???

sorry i have so many questions.... thanks for your info. i will send them cert. letter requesting that they validate the debt. Once i receive that validation, i wanted to try to talk down the amount of debt with them. Should i just write up a contract stating x amount of dollars is what i am willing to pay and ask that they sign and send back to me if they agree to that amount as a payment in full? Can i ask that they remove the item from my report once paid. or do i have to settle with a "paid in full" or "settled debt" reporting?
