I don't have a debt problem, unfortunately my husband and I are getting divorced and he has maxed every credit card he could get his hands on and now is filling bankruptcy. I have two problems relating to this. The creditors have gotten ahold of my telephone number at my new home and repeatly call even though I tell them he does not live here, never has and never will. I also tell them I do not wish to have contact with him. I tell them very clearly to STOP CALLING. They KEEP calling. The second situation deals with two credit cards I cancelled, one in both our names, one in just mine. Unfortunately again, he reopened both of them and maxed them out. I am responsible for these, about 40,000 that will probably take 20 years to pay off. I closed them without a clause that both parties would have to consent to reopen. I don't know how he opened the one in just my name. But he did. Just wanted to let people know when closing cards out make sure to place this restriction on the card or your ex can make a call and get them up and going. Since the bills were going to his address I didn't learn about them until the creditors started calling. One good thing about them, I guess.

I am so sorry about your situation. That's really low of your husband to do that to you.

I would send a cease and desist letter to the creditors who are harrassing you.

I don't understand how he was able to reopen both credit cards after you canceled them, especially the one in just your name. I assume you've tried to fight that?

Since you have registered, a debt counselor in your area will be contacting you. You can ask him/her what you can do about these credit cards that he maxed out. The best of luck to you. Let us know how you're doing.

If I'm not mistaken if he files for bankruptcy could she not be held liable for the cc in both names if she does not file with him?

I am really sorry that this has happened to you. I know some seperations/divorces can get nasty at times.

I would do as dbaker said and send out the cease and desist letter and see what the counselor says about the card he reopened.

Also if you have a divorce attorney he will be able to handle how the debt is divided up and such for you.
