Stressed and Depressed
Date: Mon, 01/29/2007 - 12:40
I had been unemployed for a little over 6 months so I became behind on my bills. I was surfing the internet for jobs and instead I found Payday Loans. I was like OMG I could get some of those and pay them off when I get my checks flowing in regular. But what happened that was bad is that I ended up getting 9 payday loans. Yes I know I am a stupid little gurl. Trust me I don't know what got into me. I haven't been the same person ever since that day. Well now let me tell you where I am at now. I have no money to pay them back well actually not enough money for the companies happiness, a huge overdraft fee on my cheking account, and 3 of those companies are threatning to sue me. Now I don't really know what to do. I heard about debt consolidation.........I don't know what that does........I heard they rip you out of extra money. I am 21 I don't know much of anything.
I really hope someone can lead me on a track to somewhere good. ANYONE OUT THERE?! I just can't sleep......I cannot eat........I am so stressed and depressed!!!!!!!!!

Hi, Smyleee03 :D You are not alone when it comes to the payday loans. Many of us here have been in your type of situation and I am one of them. Since you said you were surfing the net, I'm assuming your payday loans are internet payday loans. Is this correct? First of all, the ones that are threatening to sue you, are just trying to scare you into paying them b/c most more than likely, they are not licensed to lend in your state. What state are you in? What are the names of the lenders that you have your loans with?

One more thing you need to do is to close your account. Since you are not able to afford the payments to your lenders, giving them access to the account is only raising the overdraft fees and your bank will cause problems in closing the account if it goes like that.

I am in Indiana! I have numerous lenders and yes they are all internet loans. Anyways here are the companies:
Route 66 Funding
MTE Financial
Paycheck Today
DMS Marketing
B&L Marketing
United Cash Loans
NLS Cash Advance 12
US Fast Cash
The list just turns my stomach. But I would greatly appreciate any help and or advice anyone has to offer!

First off, you need to close your bank account and open a new one. That will allow you to regain control over your paycheck. Once the account is closed, you need to make contact with the pdl's. Some like Rt 66 won't care, and will tell you that you have to give them account numbers, they don't accept payment any other way. DO NOT fall for this. They can and will accept money orders. Can you tell us how much you borrowed/paid so far from each pdl?

MTE Financial has been ordered to cease & desist by the state of Oklahoma. They are not supposed to be lending anymore and all outstanding loans are null & void.

And don't feel stupid. You made a mistake. Big deal. :)
Like Goudah asked, just let us know how much you've paid to them, and the amounts borrowed. We can help you figure out if you've overpaid, and get you set up to get these taken care of.

Most of us have been exactly were you are right now . . . . Super stressed and losing sleep trying to figure out how to dig yourself out of this hole. You will find on this site info regarding most of the companies you have loans through. Some of them might be a fight, others may cave at the first letter. The important thing is how much you paid/borrowed verses how much they are legally allowed to charge you. If you post that info here we can help you figure out if you should be going for refunds, just having your loan marked paid in full, or if you do still owe the company some money.

Smylee,
A big welcome to you!! We are so glad you are here. And if you're a stuppid little girl, well, honey, I'm a stupid big girl, because I have been and am in your shoes. We are going to help each other get through this, OK?
Everyone who told you to close your bank account are exactly right. Trust me, this is the only way you will start to get your life back. And once you open up a new one, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT give these places the account number!! Let me repeat: DO NOT give them the account number!
They are going to tell you anything to get you to pay, and will try and scare the crap out of you in the process, but don't fall for it.
What I want you to do is read the info on the forums about these companies and start educating yourself. And most important: hang in there! My oldest daughter is your age and this is what I would tell her, and I'm telling it to you too. Hugs!!

Some of these companies will threaten you with everything you could think of . . . . . There have been cases where employers have been told that the police will be there in 10 minutes to arrest the debtor for theft or fraud! All some of these companies can do to get you to pay what they want is harrass. And harrass they will!!! If you had to give them references when you applied for the loan you may want to consider giving them a heads up . . . . That way they will know to just hang up when they call instead of listening to the BS. I had one IPDL try to tell me that since I wrote my boss's name down on the application where they asked for my supervisor that my boss could be held legally responsible for the balance on the loan, and that they were filing suit against her, not me, that afternoon . . . . . Whatever they say to you, don't give them any of your account info, or anyone elses. I know they may seem repetative, but it's really important. Many have come here in tears because of what some IPDL told them. Just stay strong . . . . . Once that bank account is closed you will at least have your whole paycheck to pay what you want to pay.
Also, I seriously doubt any of those companies will really sue you. Odds are they aren't properly licensed in your state and wouldn't want to step foot in a courtroom.

Now seeing your boss going down the river may be an attractive thought, hmmm, but that's all it is, a fantasy!

Actually, my boss is really cool . . . . . I was super lucky (in a morbid way) that when my ipdl mess came to a head I also had a crazy guy stalking me. He had just got out of jail on stalking charges relating to me, so everyone at my work had been told to tell anyone, no matter what they said, thta I didn't work there any longer. So no one at my work but the receptionist even knew people were calling for me. The sad part is that even after being told i didn't work there, rt 66 called about 20 times a day for about 1 and 1/2 months . . . . Never once getting ahold of me. Yet they never called my cell phone, which is always answered. Strange people they are, they didn't want to get a hold of me, they just wanted to embarrass me at work.

Don't be stressed and depressed. I was just in the same position as you. Young and in debt. I felt that I would never see the end of the rainbow. But eventually, I had to file bankruptcy something I really hated to do but at the time, I had no choice. Then I got out of debt and fell right back into it again but this time, I had help.
This place has really helped me because I met other individuals who were in the same boat I was in and understood what I was going through. Read through this website. It has been really helpful to me in my hour of need.

Does anyone have actual addresses for my pdls?! I am going to write them all letters to let them know what is going on. Whenever I call them and ask them for it they say they can't give that out. UM.....I am a customer! I get to frustrated :(

Great! You're taking the first step to getting your life back! A journey of a thousand miles starts with one small step, don't forget that, OK?

No you aren't. You just made simple mistakes. You are only stupid if you learn nothing from them and make the mistakes again.
Ok - so letters are sent. Excellent. When you sent the letters, did you have a return receipt? Just to verify they have received them? You could also call them and see if your account has been updated. Most good firms would post a note that they have received correspondence from their customer and explain where the matter is currently being discussed. You can ask about that.
Have you followed the others advice and closed your bank account and created a new one? Don't give out that new account number to ANYONE!! ('cept me......and Steelers.......and maybe kscornell :) ) Now - watch your new account. Be prepared - they are sneaky and may find a way to debit it. If you see that happen - close again and change banks.
