I have bad credit. There is no other way to say it. I had a good job then got hurt and the settlement never went thru. I was a single mom and on state aid and was unable to pay my bills. I had to move back in with my mom and everything went down hill from there. I had creditors calling and sending letters all the time.

Well now time has passed and I have paid off some with the settlement negotiations and others are just out of the statute of limitations. I got married about 2 years ago and my husband has perfect credit and a good job. What should I do to improve my credit? Almost everything is atleast 5 years old or older and off my credit report. If I want to improve my credit should I let my husband put me on his credit card or should I take some other steps?

I am a stay at home mom right now and have no income of my own if that helps.

thanks

Paid off accounts will certainly be a big help if you want your credit scores to improve.

I am slightly confused about your post. You said the debts are already past the SOL period and they are not showing up in your credit file. If this is something that you are saying, accounts that are not showing up now is not going to affect your scores. Pay attention to those accounts that have recently defaulted. If you can pay them off, your scores will improve.

Involve your husband only if you both are sure about paying the accounts. You don't want him to go through troubles for your debts, just in case the payments are missed.
