debt consolidation counseling

Nope...
I have never heard of this being a problem, however I do believe that with the help of the people in this community you could definitely get through it without any counseling. I believe my Mom's friend did something like this, and as far as I know it was not considered bankruptcy or foreclosure...
What type of counseling are you considering? Would you be paying someone to organize your bills and manage your finances, or is it something else altogether?
Although personal help could benefit you in some ways, unless you are getting free counseling I would recommend just continuing to ask questions and get the advice of the many very knowledgeable people in these forums.
You can and WILL get out of debt! Just keep asking questions here and putting the advice into action, and everything will be the way you want it soon! Have an amazing day!

Deb/credit counseling does not show on your credit report as the
Deb/credit counseling does not show on your credit report as the same as a bankruptcy or foreclosure. But it does show. I used to do data entry for a company that cleaned up your credit. It actually helped, because it would actually raise the score for entries that were previously in collection and then in credit counseling. The marks were in the mid-range. I guess it really depends on where you are coming from. If you had excellent credit and then it went bad, the debt counseling will bring the score down. If you have always had bad credit and are in debt counseling, it helps to raise it a little ... but not by much. At any rate, the scores are not as bad as the scores for bankruptcy or foreclosure. Hope this helps.
