what is the debt collection law in florida? An attorney working for asset acceptance told me I could go to jail for not paying a debt in the state of florida. Is there any truth to this rumor or is this another deceitful attorney working for asset acceptance?

Tsamon - Welcome to the forum. Now take a deep breath, count to 10 an remember - THERE ARE NO DEBTORS PRISONS! How about giving us more info so that we can help. Is this debt for pdls? What companies? And just remember - anyone can say that they are an attorney on the phone. It is a scare tactic that is used by CAs.

debt collectors are legally restricted within the fdcpa laws. Know about your rights in the FTC website. This should explain what a collector is expected to do in their normal collection practice.

Asset Acceptance is one of the worst collection agencies. They are famous for their rude practices and violating the laws. The link below should give you some tips on how to handle the collectors.
