Bass & Associates told me to contact them immediately
Date: Tue, 02/06/2007 - 18:21
Now for these wonderful slimey people of Bass & Associates I recieved a letter in the mail yesterday and it told me to contact them immediately so I did because I know I have tons of ipdls out there am trying to clear them up. I was passed on to a kimberly davison and she told me that I owe $875.10 for a $350.00 loan with SJM/Platinum B Services. I told her my situation and she said hold on then she came back and said the bank would take a payment of $437.55 by 8:00 am tomorrow (which is today) or they are going to file charges on me and also charges of worthless check so I told her ok then she hung up on me. I then contacted my AG, FL's AG and the FTC. Well as you all my have guessed Bass, I-collect , and SJM have tons of complaints with these states AG's. I sent Bass a letter of dispute now the waiting game begins. My state AG told me to send one to SJM so I called them for an address so I could send them a letter and the address they gave me was Charlestown, West Indies go figure. Well to sum it all up I gave my states AG some info(phone numbers, addys and even the link hehehe)that I found on this site. And she was more then grateful for the info and has written letters and mailed them out today. I will keep you informed on what happens next. Maybe something good will come out of all of this. FL's AG told me that it is a MUST that I contact the FTC so I encourage everyone who has delt with Bass to contact the FTC!!!!!

Since when are these slime balls sending out letters? This is news to me. They have contacted me by phone once, but they have never sent a letter. Please keep us posted on the outcome.

Their affiliate never sent me a letter, just harassed me on the phone. They have never validated my DV letter either. This doesn't surprise me since they would not give me their mailing address on the phone. I have filed the proper complaints against them though.

They will try with every possible threat and scare you. If they really have your file from the pdl company, make them validate your account. They will confirm about their legitimate collection practice. Do not send money to these shady places just because they said you on the phone that owe to some company. Using your legal rights, make them prove it.

Sorry, everyone it has been awhile since I have been on here. Anyways, just received a letter from the AG of Michigan. Enclosed was letter from Bass & Assoc. denying that their "employees" ever threaten me with sending out an affidavit to my employer. Furthermore, they acknowledged calling me on such a stated date but that they in no way threaten or accused me of any internet fraud or bad check writing. They also went on to explain that any said contact is first submitted by mail! Obviously this is all untrue. So I am curious to know what bass is trying to pull now.

Bass had said the same thing to the Florida Ag's office when I filed a complaint. They denied threatening me with anything and also said they have contacted me in writing. This is such a lie  I hope the AG's office will know that something just isn't right with this company b/c all the complaints they are receiving are basically saying the same thing about Bass's collection practices.

When they were harrassing me, I never got any kind of letter or anything. Just another lie to cover up their behinds...

If you really want to stop this CA from making illegal threats: If your state law allows, record the call for evidence. Then find a lawyer who will not charge you up front. Have the lawyer assert your claims under every federal and state law that was violated.
If your state does not allow recording without telling the other party, make sure you tell them up front. Then they will either 1) stop violating the law or 2)violate the law anyway and you can use the recording as evidence.

I just got a copy of the letter my state AG sent to SJM. It told them about what bass is doing and it also states in the letter that the loan transaction was intitated by platinum B in an unsolicited e-mail and that I responded to that e-mail and in the state of wisconsin they consider that mail, and because of that they were doing loan transactions in the state of wisconsin without a license. The letter goes on requesting different kinds of info about them and what they plan on doing to me if I do not repay in the time limit that bass gave me and they told them to submit a completed wisconsin registration and they gave them 15 days to reply. This letter was sent to the addy SJM gave me (West Indies). Thats the new info I have so far, will keep you updated if I hear anything new.

My goodness, I hope they do something about this company real soon...I just feel sorry for those individuals who don't find websites like this and jump up and send those crazy amounts of money.

I recieved paperwork on Bass and Assoc from the attorney general this week. Has anyone ever gotten this and if so, does it need to be notorized?
By the way, Bass and Assoc called me again at my place of employment. I just checked on the BBB of FL and there is 32 complaints against them as of today :) When I filed mine a couple of weeks ago there was I believe 16 :) lmaooooooooooo
Please give advice on paperwork. Thanks!

Yes, your paper work needs to be notarized. Your bank will notarize it for free. I just sent my paperwork back to them about 3 or 4 weeks ago.

Just because bass is defending themselves thru letters back to the AG,it means nothing more than our complaints to the AG. So I hope no one is freaking out cause they got a letter. The last part of my letter from Bass pointed out that they record phone calls for quality assurance and training. I would be real interested in whether they recorded the phone conversation where their employee threatened me with internet fraud, bad check writing. I also like the litte tidbit about sending an affidavit to my employer via fax. Now all that information I just said was stated a lie and I believe in the letter they called it "prepostious." I believed that is the spelling. Anyways, I plan fighting them tooth and nail no matter how they come at me. Good luck to you all

Bass said the same thing in my letter about recording phone calls. We both know it's a lie when they said they never threaten with arrest and record phone calls. I just hope the AG's office will put two and two together about this company with all of the complaints they are receiving. BTW, Bass probably sends that same response letter back to the AG's office on everyone's complaint.

It would surprise me if they lied in their responses back on the complaints filed against them. This would not be the first time something like this has happened. Tweety, have the papers notorized and send them back to the FL AG as suggested by brownsugar. You can go ahead and file complaints in your state as well. You don't need to wait to hear back because it does take time.

I received a call this am stating They were going to download information and I will be picked up for fraud, worthless check and thief. This is the second time that have called me but the first time they gave different names. I contacted a friend at my local pd and they have no way of downloading this type of info. The people who called today would not give the co name.Said that US National Bank was filing the charges and that this co owned b&L mkg and arrowhead. They would not send me a debit validation and they hung up on me.

Since it is a third party CA, they should abide by it. That's the law but with scavengers like this, I seriously doubt it. I am sueing one CA because they violated it six times in two days.

Being downloaded must be painful--b/c it seems like they threaten to do it a whole lot, lol...Also, if they really claim that they do record calls, wouldn't you have the right to say you don't want to be recorded? And wouldn't they have to say that disclaimer on the phone?

Tweety,

My husband and I each took seperate internet pdl. I have been paying $90 biweekly for a $300 loan since January and my husband loan is from February. We are having a rough time and both payments bounced. I have not recieved a phone call or aletter regarding how or where to remit payments. I got a phone call form Bass and Associates, they were very abusive on the phone and threatend that I would be fired if I used my work computer to apply for the loan and that they were going to send a worthless check avidavft(sp)to our employers. They also referred to my husband and I as Bonnie and Clyde...and stated that we were bouncing the checks on purpose. I asked if I could send the money on Friday and they told me I had until lastnight before they filed charges. My loan was $300 an d I have paid at least $180 in fees already and now they want $760 from me and my husband loan was $200 and they want $660 from him. I am really concerned and scared can anyone help with suggestions??? should I send them money??

No, do not send them any money. I would try to make payment arrangments with the original creditor. As Irish suggested, give us some more information and we will be able to help you more. Some states have certain guidelines or laws regarding payday lenders. Bass is only trying to threaten you. This is common practice for them. Also, they are located out of Florida so file a complaint against them with the Florida AG as well as the FTC.
