Survivors typically aren't responsible for the parent's debts. But, the collection agencies will use their aggressive collection practices to get the money from you. Looking at the estate, the creditor might intend to file a case against you for your parent's debts. The situation will be unfortunate to happen and the family home and other assets may have to be sold. Make sure you know the SOL of the state where the debt occurred. No legal actions can take place if the debt is already past the SOL
