We did an installment plan with the IRS where we paid $50 a month to start and then we finally did a $40 per payday out of my husband's check, which was $100 a month, except on those months that there were 3 paydays. It is worth a shot at calling them and talking to them and see what they let you do. Good luck!

Oh and wanted to add that the IRS was not that hard to work with for us. They should be able to help you come up with something that is doable for you.

The Irs is very easy to talk to and work with. You just need to address it quickly to avoid penalties and interest. Call them and go to their office if need be and be upfront with them about your payment ability.

I find it very hard to believe that the men in black would be easy to work with. But hey I'm willing to give it a shot. I'll let everyone know how it goes. I wonder if they are there on Sundays.

Actually, the IRS was required to under-go a complete 'people friendly' overhaul. They no longer can intimidate or make crazy demands. Ask Willy Nelson. He owed millions, yet was able to set up a reasonable payment plan. The IRS would rather get small amounts over a period of time, rather than someone being jailed and not being able to pay at all.

They don't work on weekends, so fraid they're not that customer friendly, but they're getting there. They do look at time frames for getting the debt paid off, so that's what they are going to check out.

Nope,
Just Mon-Fri and if you're lucky, they MIGHT have one call center open the Saturday before April 15th. Your tax dollars at work....

Speaking from personal experience, the IRS is the easiest agency to deal with. They are completely different than the IRS of the old days, that were just brutal. They will work with you. They are much easier to work with than any collection agency.

You just have to remember don't ever put them off and try to hide. They have the authority to seize assets at will with no hearings or court required. I still agree that their agency has changed over the years to one that has a pretty good record of working with the party to resolve their debts.
