I have an aunt (who is more like a sister than aunt) who has 3 children, (whom I am more of an aunt to than cousin), 2 with Cystic Fibrosis. The 2 with CF have been pretty sick with flu like symptoms. The older of the 2, the daughter, is doing better, but not 100% yet. She is like 19 or 20. The son, who is the youngest (18) is not doing so hot. My mom just called me and told me he is in the hospital with only 23% of his lung capasity. He is hooked up to all kinds of things and is on oxygen. He is very weak. This is very dangerous for those with CF. My uncle, the kids' father, said they are very concerned as are the doctors. It is killing me not being there for Robert and the rest of the family. I am very close to all 3 of these kids and like I said, me and my aunt are more like sisters than aunt and niece and we think of each other as sisters because we grew up together. She use to live with us.

In case anyone doesn't know what CF is, it affects the lungs and there is no cure. People with CF are constantly on medication and have a hard time gaining weight. Colds, flues and such can be very dangerous. Now people with CF are living longer and longer. Use to be kids with CF would barely make it out of thier teens. But like I said, it is uncurable.

So please, keep Robert and his family in your prayers. Thanks so much.

I am so sorry to hear that 2ndband. Of course they will be in my prayers. CF is a horrible disease. My youngest was in and out of hospitals all his like, just with asthma and pneumonia. But one time he made friends with a little boy in there that had CF, the horrible coughing and pain they go through is amazing. Prayers are being offered up!!..KAren :D

I wish we could do a video for them, but Robert is really out of it right now. I know as soon as something is known that I will get a phone call either from my mom or from my aunt. This has got my son so upset that he has hit something and hurt his hand. He and Robert are pretty tight when they are together. Thanks for the prayers.

2nband - I am so sorry - the kids on are the pray line as I type this. I know what CF is. When my son was a baby we had a doc test him for CF because of the number upper respiratory infections that he had. I did a lot of research on the disease and all of the studies that were being done at the time. He did not have CF, but was diagnosed with something much rarer. Please keep us posted.

Ok, just a little more info that I got last night....Robert has lost over 20 pounds and he is coughing up green mucus. He has got some type of spores that has affected his lungs. Lung capacity has gone to 20%. They have him on a very strong antibiotic, but he has to take benedril before they can give him the medicine because he had an allergic reaction to it the first time they gave it to him. He will also be getting some aggressive physical therapy on his chest and back. This has tore my son up because he and Robert are tight. In fact, it upset my son so much that he hit a tree or a board, (not exactly sure what) and hurt his hand. My son is a butt most of the time, but he is very sensative. He is afraid of Robert dying.

Now, more news....the daughter that has CF may be going into the hospital also. Thought she was going better, but she has starting running a high temp and is coughing pretty badly and is feeling very weak. I believe they are taking her in to see the doctor today.

As I hear more, I will let you all know.

Thanks so much for all the prayers. My aunt says thank you too. I told her that there were a lot of people praying for Robert and she started crying and asked me to express her gratitude. I would like to ask that Ida be included in these prayers also. Hopefully things with her will not be as bad.

Thanks all....
Karen

I got a quick call tonight and found out that Robert's sister, Ida, has also been admitted to the hospital. Her lung capacity is 30%. A little better than her brother's but not by much. Looks like they are going to be in the hospital for at least 7 days, providing they improve. Robert is still on oxygen and I believe they were getting ready to put Ida on oxygen also. They have not done a lung capacity test for Robert yet. They are going to try to work down the pure oxygen for him to but looks like that is going to be a long process.

Anyway, that is all I know at this time. This is just breaking my heart...not only for myself, but thinking about my aunt and her husband and their older sister.

Anyway, just wanted to pass that on before I called it a night.

Talked to my aunt yesterday and the kids are doing a little better. They have taken Ida off of oxygen and Robert is still on oxygen but it is just with the tubes at the nose. Ida had not lost as much weight as Robert, but both have gained a pound or so, not very much, but a little bit. Robert is still being woken up every 4 hours for PT. They are expected to stay in the hospital until the end of the week, providing the continue to improve. So this is good news considering how things were before. As thing progress, will keep everyone posted.
