I had surgery in March 2003 and the anesthesiologist did not file for insurance in a timely manner so they are coming after me for the entire amoung. I checked with the insurance co. and they said that it should be written off. Since the insurance company has a time limit and it was not met, am I responsible for the payment? thank you, Linda

That is ridiculous, I used to do medical billing and I believe the doctor's billers should know how to appeal the denial get tough with them. If they did not file timely they should eat it, write a letter to the doctor and the office manager of his office, demand that they either appeal the denial of the bill or demand that they right off the bill due to their negligence dealing with your insurance carrier. It should not be your responsiblity for their failure to provide timely billing to the insurance company. What is the time limit with your insurance company March was barely 2 months ago, it doesn't seem like much time for submission of billing.
