So I pulled my credit reports last fall in order continue paying old bills. I have been working on cleaning up my credit for a couple of years now. When i got my reports only the trans union and experian reports showed up. Equifax sent me a letter saying my info didn't match. I didn't think too much about it just figured they goofed somewhere. Well I went to get a loan about a month ago and was denied. The loan agency showed me my credit report and told me I was denied because i was overextended because of my credit cards. I don't have any credit cards. Upon examining the report more closely, I found that someone else's name was attached to my social and birthday. I called several of the credit card companies thinking it was identity theft. But as it turns out the cards were in the other gentleman's name and my social wasn't on the cards, his was. On top of that the information only shows up on my equifax report. The only means I have found to contact equifax is via postal mail. I sent them all the information I had including copies of my drivers license and social security card, and a letter explaining the circumstances and my dilema. I did recieve a call from them about two weeks ago while i was out of town for the day, someone was home and took the call and asked them to call back at 5 pm when I would be home and that I desparately wanted to talk to them. The equifax representative refused to give a phone number where they could be contacted, and never called back. What do I do? I haven't recieved any word from the now in just over two weeks. I have been patient for almost as long as I can be. I can't afford an attorney, but, I'm afraid that might be my only recourse. I want to get this all straightened around but nothing seems to be working in my favor. I know if i had a direct means of talking to someone at equifax this could be straightened out in a short amount of time. Their website says if I order my credit report from them that I would get a phone number to call and talk to a representative. But because the information doesn't match I can't order the report. If I use the incorrect information I'm afraid it will just go to the other gentleman's house. So If anyone could help me I would greatly appreciate it.

You have a case of files merging. Please write them a letter including copies of your social security card, your drivers license,& a current utility bill to prove residence. You will explain that you cannot access your file and it must be fixed as you have already suffered actual countable damages because of your credit denial.Send this letter certified return receipt to their Fraud department.

As I said in my opening question, I sent them all the information including copies of the credit report I recieved from the loan agency, my drivers license, and social security card. I recieved the one phone call. They refused to leave a number I could contact them at and never called back as they said they would. At this point, not knowing what's going on what should I do? Should I send them the information all over again with a new letter Explaining as I have here and pray they call again? This feels really frustrating. I'm afraid to send them the same information again and cause a conflict which could take more time. Help!?!?

I called the number and as ususal all I'm getting is computers. If anyone has the direct phone number to speak to a Equifax representative (it is supposed to be on the top of the credit report that I can't order because of this mess) I would greatly appreciate it. And to cajunbulldog, Thank you so much for your advice and efforts!
