I am 24 and am currently in college. My x girlfriend left last year and the bills keep piling up. I dont owe that much, about 5 thousand but I would like to take care of it as soon as possible.

Welcome to the forums. No you dont owe that much and I think if you register and ask to speak to a debt counselor they can help. They deal with debt issues dailey anhd hopefully can come up with a plan thats right for you. Keep us posted. Best Wishes KYSIDE38

You should give a try with your creditors and see if you can work out a plan. They might consider your situation and offer some extensions. If they offer you a lower interest rate that suits to your payment plan, you won't have to depend on any professional help. You can also take the advice of a debt counselor on how to negotiate with the creditors.

In my opinion debt counseling services offer a solution to your debt problems. The debt counselor will get in touch with your creditors and notify them that you are making an honest effort to pay off your debts. The counselor will negotiate with your creditors to establish a debt management plan for you. It is the sole responsibility of the counselor to make sure that the whole agreement is within your budget.
