My story isn't so different from many others...just that it happened to me. My husband and I were separated for many months and he was seeing someone else. After we had gotten back together, the woman notified him that she was pregnant. I now have a beautiful 3 month-old step-son, but we also have the financial obligations that go along with a baby. We weren't ready for the expenses of a child, let alone the legal fees that we've incurred. We owe our attorney money, we have tons of things we have to get for the baby (neither of us have any other children) and we still have our everyday expenses. On top of everything, we had to buy a newer used car since the one I was driving completely conked out, which depleted almost all of our savings. We've tried getting loans, but the amount of money we need is more than anybody seems willing to give. I'm at a loss as to what to do next.

Hi jon_ness105,

Welcome to the forums and thanks for sharing your experience. As you said a child is a big responsibility, you will have to plan very seriously for it, I advice

  • A proper budgeting.
  • Reducing all possible expenses.
  • Getting a better job or get a second job for few months.

I believe with a proper planning things can be molded to a better shape.

Thank you for the words of encouragement. I have two jobs right now, one of which pays extremely well, and my husband is on a salary. It will be tight for a while, but hopefully there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks again!

jon_ness,

truly understand the responsibility both financially and emotionally that come with having children. I myself have three kids and it has been a struggle. Which is why my credit has gone up and down over the past couple of years. I am now starting to get back on track. I do have a good job, but I also have lived a lavish lifestyle. I have changed it a bit. But I was one of those parents that bought everything name brand. I just recently started shopping in different types of stores other than the mall for bargains!! It does take a lot of discipline to work with a budget and resist temptation. Over time though it does pay off.
