I just signed up with a debt settlement program yesterday I just signed the contract and sent it back. A few weeks ago I received a letter from a law firm representing Capital One stating that they have not decided wether to file a suit against me or not. They said I have 30 days from the date on the letter to have the debt validated. I did sent a letter requesting validation last Friday. Yesterday I received a call from them they did not leave message, however I saw their number on my caller ID. I don't know what to do I am scared. I have left a message with my debt counselor but he has not called me back. I am afraid they are getting ready to file a suit against me. The 30 days for validating the debt is not even up yet. Please Help.

I think you should call the law firm and get the latest status of your account. As you have already requested them to validate your account, they must first give you this info before taking to the court. Under the federal laws, it is your right to ask for the complete information of your account in writing so that you are sure of sending payments to them. Keep in touch with your settlement company also. They must handle the situation as you have hired them for their services.

How long were you in default with Capitol one Pink? I have not sent a payment or made arrangements with them for like 4 years now. They sent them to NCO and then a lawyer was mailing me now they sent it to I believe the CA NRA. ANd I have read on here they are prety nasty. So I am just waiting. They darn cards were only $200 and now they want $2000. I refuse to pay that much.

I had been in default for sometime and I actully had them involved with a consolidation company for two years...then I was having trouble making that payment so I quit the consolidation company and then I went without paying them for close to a year and I just kept receving notices from the collection agency. Then they finally sent me to this law firm around the time I entered a new consolidation program. I was making the payments through the new company but it wasn't good enough for them...the day before I was supposed to have my court date, I filed bankruptcy.
