Welcome to the Community :D I'm sorry about your losses and problems, but we are here to try to help! First of all, don't ever send a collection company your personal check, that's all they need is your bank info-send a cashies check instead. Second, if your check won't clear to them, I don't know that I wouldn't cancel it-it's cheaper to cancel than get overdraft fees, but that's your decision. They can, and will threaten everything. One of them gave me 4 hours to get the money, and told me to sell a car  keep track of all calls, names, etc.,if it is legal to record them in your state, I would do so. They can be in a lot of trouble for doing that. Aslo, send the money when you have it-if it is actually owed to them. They have to send you something in writing after talking to you. If you know the addy, and have not received anything from them, have them do a debt validation. They may say it's too late since you agreed to pay-but it won't hurt. Good luck..Karen

teresa, if you do make a payment, pay by money order. Never give them any bank information, or you might find that your entire account has been cleaned out. You don't have to tell them anything. In fact, I would send a partial cease communications letter (return reciept) stating that you'll only be dealing with them in writing.

teresa, as stated in the above posts, by experienced people, if you don't have the money to cover that check you gave to them, stop payment on it. As they stated, it would be cheaper for you to put a stop payment on it, as the company will present it, it'll bounce, your bank will charge fees, and then the company may present it again and the process starts all over again. They have your bank account information now. I don't know if they can then do an ACH debit if your check does not clear. Some companies will try to do an ACH debit if your check is rejected.

If this were me I would go to the bank and explain to them about this and put a stop payment on the check and any further checks or ACH's from this company. Let them know that they scared you into setting up this payment. Your bank should work with you on this. And do not let them scare you, they are just blowing alot of hot air. Send them the money when you have it like the others said and in a money order.
