MM...have you been reported to Chexsystems by your/a bank?? If you have they do keep you on file for 5 years unless you can get the bank to call and remove you. If you'd like to give us a little more info maybe we can come up we some other advice too...

Chexsystems is what banks report to when they have had to charge off an account that has been sitting overdrawn too long, or when they feel the need to report account abuse, or checks written on closed accounts...you get the picture. It's only bank reporting, though. It has nothing to do with credit agencies.
chexsys
I just got into one. My kids bank overdrew my own acct to fix hers at her bank, i was a co-signer from years ago.. Point is: dont ever co sign unless you remove your name when they are 18.
They just ripped my money right off and i didnt know what was happening. they zeroed her acct out and left mine in the hole-deeply. i couldnt fix it either.
I argued with my bank who couldnt be responsible for helping me as the other bank did it. So here i am with something i was not responsible for and i get the bad credit rap? unfair world

As Swedishgirl said, it isn't credit reporting. The only businesses that use Chexsystems are other banks or financial institutions. They will check this report when opening a new account, and you can be denied a new account because of it.
There is a dispute process, but since you are a cosigner you are considered legally responsible. The only way to get the report cleared is convince the reporting bank that it should be cleared. If you haven't paid your bank back yet then you could negotiate a deal where once you are paid off they will remove your name from Chexsystems. If you do this, get it in writting. Hold them to it. The only way for items to be removed from Chexsystems is by dispute or by the reporting bank removing it. Otherwise it stays on for 5 years.

Was your account and the account with your daughter on it both at the same bank? If so, it's perfectly legal for the bank to do what is called a "right of offset". That is where any person that is associated with an account can have any other account they are associated with attatched to cover any fees or amounts owed on any other account with their mane on it. The exception to this is business accounts, unless it's a sole-prop. Goudah is correct. It is really difficult to get a bank to remove you from Chexsystems. You have to prove that it is NOT your fault. Even if you pay it, the bank will report that it is paid to Chexsystems, but you'll still have a record with them for 5 or so years. I think credit unions will open accounts for people on Chexsystems. Some banks have special accounts they will do for chexsystems people. They are very restricted, no debit card, all deposits are held until the next business day, limited checks paid per month, but at least it's an account, I guess.

Nowdays a lot of credit unions use chexsystems and will only open you a savings account, if that.
If you need a bank that you can open a real account with, please PM me your state and I can send you a list of banks in your state that don't use chexsystems to verify new accounts.
yep i need banks.
I found one bank-they rob you royally and i hate them. Gotta get out of it.
And above answer: yes, my duaghters bank took money from my acct as a co-signer. But, the problem is: i am at a totally different bank and they found me, as I had made a deposit in her acct to help. I cant beleive this. I co signed years ago and forgot.
I am in a rinky dink local bank alright. It offers an overdraft protection but they charge you $30 to od and another $30 when they pay themselves back. Funny, my Bank one had no OD on it and they only charged once... this lowlife bank here is horrible. Its for low class folk i guess. I am proud to tell everyone its so bad dont use it: cameron state bank in LA
