I tried to call back but I just get a recording that the person I am calling is not available.
Does anyone know who this is or where I can write them a cease and desist letter? And, does someone have an example of a cease and desist letter?
thanks,
jt

Oh, we are quite familiar with these crooks. It sounds like Bass and Associates, out of Florida, currently being sued for illegal threats of legal charges. Come to my site, and on the side is a link to all of the information that I have compiled on them. The link is called "illegal threats of arrest...". Let me know if it helps.

Where do I go to get to your site? Also, do you have a fax number for them and a sample of a cease and desist letter as well? Thanks.

What should I do about returning her call? I don't even know what they are calling about? I notice the above letter asks for verification but, as I said, I am not sure what to even ask them to verify at t his point. However, I am not sure what to say to them when I do talk to them on the phone. Any ideas?

Call her back and find out. The above letter is not for verification, it is a validation letter/cease and desist. Huge difference. See what she wants, and if she uses any sort of threat, such as "charges" "arrest" or she says she is with some sort of enforcement agency, be sure to ask what their business license is, and you will get the run around or she will become angry. That is how you can tell that they are illegally operating. If it is legal to do so in your state, record the call when you call her back.

Well, I called them back. They tried the old tactic of if I did not pay, they would have to download me into the system and have me arrested. I just plain told them upfront I knew this was a tactis they used and I knew it was not going to happen. On top of all this, I have already paid back the loan they were calling about. I tried to explain to her that the account they are trying to collect on has already been settled. It was with M1Y Marketing. I explained the whole story to her ... At the time I had my loan with them, I had my first round of cancer so paid it off a little at a time. They were very nice because I was struggling so they offered to settle for $30 less than what was actually owed and, supposedly, my account was then closed and taken care of. However, about three times per year I get calls from agencies saying I owe M1Y Marketing. I call M1Y and they are always very nice and tell the agency it is a mistake and that they should not be calling me. That seems to be okay for awhile and then I get another call like 3 months later from a different agency. Once again, M1Y always calls them to clear it up but it is a real pain. I asked them at M1Y today if they could just take me out of their system and they said yes and apologized I got this call and said they would call the agency and take care of it. But, they have apologized before and I still get the calls a few months later. Any suggestions on what to do?

Hi
I agree with Anthony. You can stop all the communication efforts made from a debt collector by sending a cease and desist letter. If you decide that you do not want to deal with the collector any more, then send a letter to him or her instructing not to contact you again. Date it and keep a copy.
Take care

After they revceive the letter, they can, per law, contact you one last time to inform you that contacting you in regards to the debt will be ceased. However, if warranted, they may still pursue in court.
