FIns, I had that salad for the first time about a year ago at a catered event. It was really good. I would love to make it for me but I would be the only one to eat it. Baked chicken is always good...comfort food.
Fins, I remember you talking about that salad before. :D

Tonight I am having Chicken Fried Chicken! It is like Chicken Fried Steak but its chicken. Does that make sense? Its on the menu at Cracker Barrel! If it works for them it works for me! With Jalapeno corn bread and some kind of greens. Pass the hot sauce!

Roxy, did you ever live in Crystal River? It's not very far from my home town, Port Richey. My dad worked at the Consumers energy plant in Crystal river!
The Fat Boys in Port Richey is still there, as of the last time I went home 3 years ago..Still dirty as ever, and so good!

Any plans for Valentines Meals out there???

I had to improvise for dinner tonight because V day happens to fall the day before I get paid. So shopping in my kitchen I had to come up with something I can cook in 30 minutes or less because i won't be home until 6:30 at the earliest. No I am not Mr Yummo! I do not have an endless pantry and budget like one of our other posters so I have to make do. Here is what I came up with:
Peppercorn crusted pork tenderloin with raspberry mustard sauce with fresh rosemary.
Orzo with gorgonzola, butter, lemon zest and parsley. (poor mans risotto)
All I need to buy is a vegetable on the way home. Roasted Asparagus would be nice but it is really expensive right now. I am not sure what to get. Florida vegs are not great even though its our season.
We got a pile of fresh strawberries from office management yesterday so I took some home with some chocolate dipping sauce. That will be good. It is strawberry season here. Plant City Fla is the Eastern Strawberry Capitol of the US.
And then to go with dinner a bottle of fruity Beaujolais or a Gewurtztraminer might work. Thats my splurge!

I personally prefer orzo over risotto....I think its a texture thing. Orzo and gorgonzola sounds like a great combo with the pork.
I have asparagus in the fridge...$1.99.
How about some broccolini (aka broccoli raab)?

I had broccoli rabe with rigatoni and sausage for dinner Saturday and lunch on tuesday! Thats really hard to get here! Asparagus is 3.99 right now. I was thinking maybe brussels sprouts. I know a lot of people will say yuck! It is all about freshness! If they are old they taste like dirt.

Roxy..we were neighbors!! I am from Port Richey, not New Port Richey. It's right by Tarpon Springs, about 10 minutes from Weeki Wachi! I went to high school in NPR, though..I went to Ridgewood high.

We lived in inverness for about 5 years. My parents went to St. Leo in Dade city and I was born there. Moved when I was 6 mo old. I have lived all over, NY CT, ME, FL. I went to college in Tallahassee. I went to my senior year of HS in Ft. Lauderdale. I had an aunt we used to go visit in Port Richey...on the water? We went back in Jan to see the grandbaby..the kids are in Tampa and Land O Lakes. Do you get to go back often? We went down 27 from Crystal River down through Brooksville and Spring Hill. I could not believe how much things have changed. But I will digress, I do not want to hijack Volley's thread.

Mmmmm!
Well, I had a few things to do today, so while I was out I sprang for a trip to Steak n' Shake. I love that place, just don't get to go all that often recently.
No Job + No Money/The Need To Save Wherever Possible = No trips to Steak n' Shake.
I feel like I was a pig, though, so I'll be skipping dinner tonight.
Now I wonder just how my pants seem to keep getting tighter, though.

Its hard to get a good burger AND shake in the same place out there. In N Out for burgers but their shakes are sub-par.
I will have to keep my eyes peeled for the Steak n Shake when I am traveling...I'll try anything at least once.
My Choice For Burgers
Gotta say, though, the best place I ever ate burgers at was a little burger-joint in the French Quarter of New Orleans called The Clover Grill!
Man I have such good memories of that place. Partying all night (literally, the bars are 24/7 there) and hitting Clover Grill on the way home to sleep it off.
Good times.
Of course I don't party like that anymore; one glass of wine gives me a raging headache the next day. And I really need to lay off the burgers as my pants are getting a tad bit snug.

Over the weekend, the Food Channel featured Bon Appetits Top Food Places in America. Not anyplace snooty, but real places to eat and the burger category was won by a place in New Mexico called Bobcat Bite. Apparently the secret is green chiles and the 50-year cast iron griddle.
But oh my...the other food categories! Especially the Fried Chicken! I cannot get good fried chicken in CA.
