I was getting calls from Chase & told them I'm in a debt management program. I told them to call the debt management company, but they insisted they don't. But after I called them, the calls from Chase stopped. That was on 10/2 the calls stopped.

Now its October 6th-a day before my payment due date & they called again today!

The debt consolidation company said last time that they will keep calling until they get money/proposal has been accepted.

The proposals went out 9/25...which was only a week & 4 days and when I called last week the consolidation company said it takes anywhere from 2-4 weeks for the proposals to get accepted.

I don't know what to do! I sure don't want to talk to Chase as they weren't very nice when I called last time.

Do you think they are just calling because its like a day before the due date & I haven't paid yet...even though I can't & told them about the consolidation program? Why won't Chase call the consolidation company? Discover did & verbally accepted the proposal and would send something to the company.

I'll call the consolidation company on Monday for sure...but what are your thoughts?

Makes me not want to answer my phone!

I don't think I would answer my phone! I would talk with your company you are working with and see what they suggest you do. Also, I do know some companies say they don't work with these companies.

Your company should be able to tell you how to handle Chase and what to do, or not do..Good Luck- Relax and enjoy the weekend- you can't do anything about it anyway-at least for the weekeend..KAren :D

LeeLee, I feel your pain. I have dealt with Chase before, and you're right. They can surely be nasty. I don't think you should answer your phone either. You know they are going to be taken care of in the debt management plan, so don't sweat their calls right now. Do you have caller-id? If so, just don't answer any calls that come from a blocked, trunked, or 800 number. That's my rule of thumb. My friends and family know this, so if they happen to have a blocked number they leave a message and I call them right back.

Definately make sure that your debt consolidation company takes care of chase, they can be some nasty buggers to deal with. I would ignore the calls until they receive the proposal from the company you are working with. You hang in there, soon the phone calls will stop and you will be on your way! Come here and vent, we are all in this together, this is a great place to get advice and support as you are working through this.

I don't think they would be able to sue you at this point. I think it is too early. I read somewhere that it typically takes 180 days for them to start contemplating anything other than reporting you to the credit bureau. By that time your consolidation company should be able to get things straight for you. The phone calls are what is so bothersome. I get super paranoid and hate talking to ca's. It just anerves (sp?) me! :-)

Me too!

Being in customer service myself, I always try to be chipper & happy. People call my work in a panic over car insurance & I find being happy and nice works the best. I wish collection reps would at least be NICE. You can be nice & be firm about what you are saying. I find them to be just mean!!

Talking to Chase is like talking to your parents when you are little & you did something bad. At least Discover understood I have no money for them...Chase makes me want to cry!!

You are so right, LeeLee. Being nice goes a very long way. You can absolutely be assertive and courteous to others. In my opinion, you probably get far better results with that sort of attitude.
I know what you mean about Chase. They really are condescending. I don't know how many different ways you can say, "I can't pay you right now!" I apparently didn't ever say it the right way because until I changed my phone number, they didn't stop calling. I haven't done settlement or anything yet, because I haven't been able to afford it. I hope to do that soon, though.

Being nice definately works, people don't intentionally put themselves in these situations to owe debt, stuff happens. I think being nice is a little more comforting to the person on the other end of the phone. I have settled three of my accounts because of the customer service skills and of course having the extra funds to do it. But if someone is a jerk to me, I am more inclined to hang up on them then to cooperate. I mean these situations are stressful enough with out some moron power tripping on me. I think collectors work on a commission basis. I was speaking to one and heard all this clapping and cheers, I asked what that was about. She stated some one had settled an account. That was with Van Rugh, they use teamwork and good customer service to deal with their accounts, when one is settled or worked out, they all celebrate. What a great concept. Sorry to rattle on.
