I was just wondering if this was a scare tactic to get me to pay, or what. This account just went into collection status, and isnt even over $2000.
Any advice. I set up a payment with them and the whole thing about court disappeared. He even was yelling at someone to stop the "litigation" on it.
It all seemed fake to me, but I didnt want to risk it.

It was fake and it was a scare tactic. I hope you did not give him electronic access to your bank account. Send him a DV letter instead of payment and start negotiating for a settlement. Get the settlement in writing before making any payment.

You can send a letter restricting communication from them to written form only.
You can also look up your state laws that cover recording telephone conversations (it is possible that you would need to familiarize yourself with the recording laws in the state the collectors are calling you from). This was probably an fdcpa violation. I would at least file a complaint with your AG and/or the FTC.
