Has anyone on here used that new drug they have out now to quit smoking Chantix. It is expensive $129.00 for 30 day supply. My doctor said there are three stages of it...anyone tried it and has it worked for anyone? Would like to know before I spend the $ to buy it...

I smoked 1-2 packs a day as well as husband for more than 20 years-it finally took visiting mom in hospital for heart problems caused from years of smoking--they told her she had to quit in order to live--my husband and I got Nicorette patch next morning and stuck with it--I had tried this once before and it didn't work because at first sign of I need a cigarette to deal with this-I started smoking again--you really have to have a reason to quit instead of the CURE offered--you can get cured by many methods but your reason of sticking with it is the thing that will continue to keep you from smoking--my oldest son now 20 is a smoker--I don't judge don't preach but tried to teach for past ten years"Hey I would have never started smoking if I knew how hard it is to quit for good" most of his friends smoke even with all the warnings that we older generation as young adults never had and it's just crazy! Anyways to stop smoking--you can quit or have help by many means you just have to have a real reason in mind to stop! mine was my moms ' cardiac arrest caused by smoking-but hey some cardiac arrests are from stress that if people didn't smoke would probably be more stressed! So go figure!I can remember 25 years ago my mom possibly from guilt because she was a smoker challenged me to quit told me she would pay me $500 if I quit smoking for 6 months --I took her up on that challenge--collected the money after 6 months of not smoking then said quote "Now give me a cigarette or I just might kill someone ha-ha" but after quitting smoking for 6 months and got my reward I started again and then smoked twice as much as I ever did guess I was making up for lost time until I finally was able to quit for good --one thing though--my parents after I turned 18 bought me cigs--I will never buy my son a pack of cigarettes for as long as I live--we go to 7-11 in morning--I might buy his energy drink and junk food but then I walk out and he pays for cigs! anyways I don't think it is particular program that works in long run-- from my experience you really have to have a real reason to get through really quitting smoking and finally being done with it --good luck to you!

I'm not sure where you live but I'm working on it myself and I found two resources. NY state is actually providing one month free of your choice of patches, gum or lozenges. I opted for the lozenges and they work really well. (Google Quit Smoking and your State)
Also if you go to the website for nicorette you can get 20 pieces of their new cinnamon flavored gum for free. Plus they send you a $10 coupon off your next purchase. I'm weaning down and am playing with a quit day in my head - I know these tools are helping me go all day without smoking and I'm not exchanging it for food either!

Believe me there is LOTS I can't do!!!!!! Hey I'm 51 and never did find the right man to settle down with. LOL At this point in my life I don't regret it but there are those times when I wonder if I would have gotten into this financial mess in the first place had I done things differently in my life....

M..don't we all wonder. To chime in on the smoking thin..I do not smoke...but I watched my father try to quit for years. He had a good reason..he was going to die but the nicotine was so addictive. Anyway...I am sure several of you heard about this but one of the girls at work had her ears stapled to quit. I am waiting to find out how it works for her. The concept is interesting and she said it cost no more than meds or patches.

What? Her ears stapled to quit smoking? Okay, you said we've probably all heard of this. Ummm... not me. What the hell is that? Stapling your ears is supposed to make you not want to smoke? Hell, I have three piercings in one ear and two in the other and I smoke like a damn chimney!

It is done on the inside of your ear. It is supposedly a fourm of accupuncture. One of the girls who had it done said she could taste a difference in the taste of cigs shortly thereafter. The use it for a variety of things..stress management, weight loss, stop smoking, acid reflux. If it really works, the whole sress manangement would be great.

Good luck with the quitting smoking. Both my husband and I smoke and it is hard to for us to quit because we never want to quit at the same time. It is getting more expensive to smoke. Here they are talking about adding another $1.00 to each pack of cigarettes for some tax. Not sure if the tax is for education or what.

Well, as I sit here and light up another cigarette..... I'm still amazed at the whole stapling thing. I must not get out much. So it works for like stress relief also? And she did it to quit smoking? And you can also do it to lose weight? Hell, can I get about 67 staples and just take care of it all? How much does something like that cost?????

Cannr - I have not seen her lately but I will ask as soon as I do. It is a staple in each ear and they numb it before they do it. She told me it kind of feels like getting your ear pierced but not that bad. They last for 2 - 3 months and will work their way loose. She told me it is between 60 - 75 $$

Kash - but it is supposed to help stress. And Cannr - when you are as big as I am, cow is an accurate descritpion. I am still on the fence about the whole thing. I have read so many opposing opinions. I guess it is like anything else, you have to believe in it. Like I said, it it helps control stress so I can concentrate at work and sleep, i would do it in a heart beat.

Well, roxy.... How does one "look into" this? Can you ask your friend? I mean, do I make a doctors appointment and look at him and say "Staple my ears. Tag me like a cow. I want to be stress free." :?:

I have no clue. I would never have thought to do that in the first place and I never heard of it before about two weeks ago. Now I notice staples in people's ears. I wouldn't even know how to find a dr to do that. I guess you would have to find someone who does alternative medicine. But if you want to get tagged like a cow..I suggest a cowboy..preferably a hot one... then I am sure you will have no trouble getting tagged

Oh! I like the idea of getting tagged by a hot cowboy! Damn! I'm moving to Texas! Hmmm... I wonder if I do a google search on stapling. Ear tagging? Kind of like getting a chip in your dogs ear in case they get lost? Okay. I'm kidding. I'm curious about this now. You're going to make me do a search on this now. What is it called? Stapling? Stress relief? How about I just do "alternative medicine"? I'll probably get results for some sort of Voo Doo clinics with witch doctors............
