Cash Today Limited's unauthorized debits
Date: Mon, 09/12/2005 - 14:48
I live in the state of Ohio.
Cash Today Limited has debited my checking account for over $800.00. I have spoken to them and told them they did not have this authorization. My Bank has not been helpful I have frozen this same debit several times which has resulted in several NSF charges.
Does anyone know if I have to freeze each transaction ? Also how long does the Bank have to dipute each transaction.
Please someone Help.

If you negotiate with your bankers properly, they will eliminate all the extra charges.

I had to close my checking account because of the exact same thing...my advice: close your account, and if you need another, open a new one with a totally different bank. DO NOT give that info out to anyone that doesn't need it.

How do I stop the loan process from them
Cash today limited called my husband today on his cell and offered him a loan. Not discussing the repayment at all and told him they would be putting the money into his account. They also told him to call an 800 number that only has voice mail on it. They have not yet deposited any funds, how do I get them to stop?

April Hicks,
Call them if you have any number or write to them immediately. Those who had dealt with this company have suffered a lot from unauthorized debits. So if you decide to go with them, make sure that no hidden cost is there.
You can browse this forum to collect some info on them.

Could you please tell us what exactly happened to you? Why are you going to close your checking account and changing your phone number? Is this a consequence of dealing with Cash Today?

Trust me.

I got a debit from them in my checking account. I have never had any dealing with this company before. I have recently moved, so I have a new checking account number, new phone number and even a new home address and employer. The debit came out of the account that has been opened since august 2005. They only debited $30 but I am concerned about this, I was the previous victim of identity theft and have all the necessary proof to back up that statement. Is this all happening again and if so what do I do this time, I don't know if I can go through the headaches I went through last time.

First, ask your bank to stop such unsolicited debits. You might have to undergo some formalities.
Some questions, did the ID theft occur before opening this account? Have you changed your SS# after that? ID thieves can trace your accounting info from your SS#.
Also you can speak to the company that withdrew money from your account. And explain the fact to them. Show the records of previous ID theft.

Yes these tricky little ID theives can track our information. They sent a falsified death certificate to SS administration that my husband had died. The only reason we found out was ss sent me a benefit plan outling how much i would receive and our children would receive. It takes alot of time and energy to get all of this straightened out. Thank god we had all the documentation and the police report and the TBI report to get his ss number changed.

The bank said the only way they could stop the unsolicited debit was to freeze the entire account.
To answer your question, the original theft was detected prior to the move. I noticed it while undergoing an SF-86 review. (thats a standard national security personell security evaluation) and they revealed that two of the credit agencies reported me as living in or having lived in a state that I have never lived in.
I opened a new account after an explination of things to them and we have gone as far as they will not accept my driver's license or social security card as identification. Instead we utilize a government ID card and its associated number.
I have tried to contact the company whose phone number was listed on the transaction (Since it came through as a telephone purchase)and all I get is voicemails, regardless of which option I select.
My previous discussions with the SSA in my former state of residency did not result in a SSN change. Hopefully the new round of problems will persuade them to change their opinion.
The company in question (per the phone number) is Cash Today Limited.

Two chances are there - this incident could be the consequence of the previous ID theft or, after opening this account you were again a victim of ID theft. In that case you might have to consult a lawyer or go through the precautionary steps once again.
Anyway, check if your bank can offer the option of blocking a particular creditor or not. Otherwise follow their instruction because you never know how many $30s you might have to sacrifice.
Also browse the ID theft section of this forum, you will get some relevant information there too. Check this thread to verify if you are done with all these-

I'm sorry. Aside from the the person w/ identity theft problems, you guys need to read the fine print. I've used Cash Today various times in the course of a few years (as in like 3-4 times) and NEVER Had a problem. If you pay as you're SUPPOSED to. Read the print and don't assume that it's free money.
This is what happens when you're so hardup for cash you don't take the time to read and calculate if it's worth it. I just bought a car and have virtually no cash. I will use them again, for a $300, 2 week loan and be done with it. If for some REASON I can't pay, that's my OWN Fault, and not theirs.

Nina, the fine print does not tell you that a lot of these companies are operating illegally and charging illegal fees to take these loans.
No one here assumes that it's free money, but they do assume that these companies will follow the laws of the states that they are loaning to.

Any reputable lender will let you pay down the principal as you go if that is your choice, not refuse and say all or nothing, especially if your not delinquent. Furthermore,They need to operate within the laws of the united sates and the state in which they are making the loans. When a person tells them then must stop debiting their account and they continue to do it, that is not right nor justified. It only makes the situation worse. if their debit is returned because there is no money in the account, what good is continuing to to debit doing? Costing that customer more money in bank fees and allowing them to collect Dishonored check fees. Its a predatory practice, and one which should be stopped.
I have never dealt with Cash2Day, however, I have read enough horror stories to form a fairly balance opinion.

Use the link below and search for a business in Ohio.
What you will find is if they have a license to do business in Ohio or if it has been cancelled.

When you get there you can go to the Nov 22,2005 cancellation and pull the document print a copy and you have proof that they do not have a license.

Gee Nina, maybe if Cash Today and all of their alias compaanies provided an actual WRITTEN disclosure per not only the United States law, but also the United Kingdom law, one would be able to READ the fine print!
WHAT A NOVEL IDEA IT IS TO FOLLOW THE LAW?!?!?!
WOW! What a concept
