Cease and Desist...Help, Please

A cease and desist letter doesn't have to be fancy..And there really isn't any one specific letter, although I think there is a copy of a successful one floating around here.

All you need to do is send a letter with your name, date, and account number. Tell them that you do not authorize them to contact you by phone, either at home or at work. Any correspondence needs to be by email or postal mail. Make sure you send it certified, and have the return receipt sent back to you!

Wow. That sounds simple. They actually WON'T contact you after that via phone? You're kidding...

Seriously, it worked for me. If they call you, they have violated the order. You should be ok, it will definitely trickle down.

What happens to them if they do violate the cease and desist order and continue to try to collect? What can you do after that?

They can continue to try and collect, but by mail. I suppose if they did violate the cease and desist you could report them, what you could hope to accomplish I don't know. This is a question for FYI!

So I took what you've written and poked around at some links and from the looks of it, it seems as those cease and desist letters are only for third party collectors? Can I not send one to my actual credit card company, then?

I sent mine to the original creditors. It worked! :D

I would only expect it to work if state debt collection law cover the OC as well as collectors.

Forgive my ignorance, what is OC? (original creditor?)
