Stopping ACH Withdrawals

Couple of things...

What state are you in? i ask this to ensure that closing your account (resulting in the ACH drafts being returned) would not yield prosecution.

Also, are you looking to close the account and reopen a new one? OR just stop individual drafts?

Yeah, read the sticky about closing your bank account. There is infomation about the different holds and blocks that banks can do to stop the ach's from going through. Stop payments on individual transactions won't work.

I want to either close my account or see if my bank can issue me new account numbers.

I think that you should consider going to a totally different bank to open up a new account. It would be too easy for a new account to be tapped into accidently by clerical error at your old bank.

Call me paranoid but I would go to a totally different bank:)

Lady is correct. We do reccommend opening an account at a completely unrelated bank. It is much safer. Go to any lenghths you have to to protect your money.

Great...and just fyi, Pay day loans are prohibited all together in Maryland.

Just pleae make sure you read the info Goudah mentioned about closing your account...make sure you talk to the bank and make them understand you want nothing to go through or re open the account...the last thing you want are nsf charges on an account you are trying to close.

I have been told the same thing. Then they say payoff only the principal. How do you do that later via check? I would not want them to have my account number.
