Okay. National Credit Adjusters "purchased" an illegal pdl loan that I had. I received a collection notice from them for $500 for a $300 loan. Of course, I immediately sent out a debt validation letter. No response. I then sent out a 2nd "reminder" letter to them 30 days later. Today (Oct 29) I received a letter from them in the mail. "Mr. Laster" expects the balance of $500 in his office by Oct 31. Ummm... okay. He says they accept pmt via Western Union, checks by phone, credit cards, and bank wires. First of all, "Mr. Laster" is insane. However, here is my question. This is an illegal debt considered uncollectable in my state per my state DFI. So, in all actuality "Mr. Laster" can pretty much kiss his $500 goodbye. However, what he sent as "validation" is this - a copy of a printed out sheet of paper entitled "ESignature History". On this sheet of paper is my name, address, phone numbers, the loan amount of $300, the origination date, and the application number. That's it. Nothing else. Yes, I know who I am. So what's my next move? How do I respond to this? This is not debt validation whatsoever. Hell, I could have printed that out myself. Also, the fact that this is an illegal debt considered uncollectable. Someone, anyone, tell me my next step now. I don't know how to respond except by typing up a letter saying "You've GOT to be kidding me!" What do you guys suggest?

fins, in the debt validation letter, it is very specific as to what I was requesting. This is not it. LOL! I don't think I have a lot to worry about in regards to them actually collecting, since they can't by law (sorry about their luck). But my concern is not letting them get away with sending this stupid print out and demanding payment in 2 days! Good Lord! Also, another concern is them hitting my credit report. I already had to fight with another collection agency in regards to that! Lord! Does it never end???

Well first of all if it is a illegal PDL then I really don't think a lawsuit would hold water in a court as they would be trying to collect on money that was earned illegally: "Your honor the I was acting as a fence for the defendant but he didn't pay me for the stolen goods so I am seeking compensation" it would hold just as much water. Also depending on the interest they are trying to charge it may also violate laws controlling predatory lending (as most IPDL's tend to fall under)

So....should I "ignore" Mr. Laster's letter? Anyone?

jcemt, I'm thinking they're certainly not going to serve me. Illegal. And, apparently this is what they think is validation. So, do you feel as though I am "safe" by just filing it away with the rest of the illegal crap I have?

Thank you, cajun! I'm glad you're here! So, should I send a letter stating that what they sent me was NOT validation and also go on to say that this is an illegal debt and considered uncollectable in my state? This is from the DFI's mouth, so it is true. You think I should do that, cajun? Then, of course, file complaints against them?

cannr I received the exact same validation as you did from NCA a few days ago. The esignature printout page. However, they also sent a supposed copy of the original loan agreement. However, it was not the original loan agreement and had to be something the pdl or NCA made up, as it matched nothing relating to the loan.

Really, tali? This little "ESignature History" looks like something "generic" anyway. But I didn't even receive an original loan agreement with mine! Thanks for letting me know I'm not alone here. I do believe I will do as cajun says. I'm going to compose a letter stating that and cc it to the DFI and my state AG. Thank you to everyone.
