Got up this morning to check my email. Had an alert from my bank. It was alerting me that I am overdrawn. I checked on-line. There was a $400 deduction from SHW Recovery on there. WTF??? I did a search on here for SHW Recovery and connected it with EastSide Lenders. Now, how in the hell (yes, I've read stories) did they get my information? This morning will be spent at the bank. I can't even type. Anyone heard of SHW? All I found was someone else had money taken out of their account by them and it was in regards to a loan with EastSide Lenders. I swear to God, I am sick.

motomom, there wasn't one of those "cash incentives" when I opened the account (I wish there was!). So, that can't be it. I do believe it's like everyone said, that if you close your account before a year (?), they will charge you. And, like goudah posted, it seems to be a "new" thing. I've never encountered it before. So it was news to me! I don't agree with it though. I can't see why a person would have to pay to close their bank account. Kind of retarded in my opinion.

Maybe it is to keep people from having more than one account or may be just one more fee that the banks need from us.

Gosh I am so sorry to hear what happened. I did not know banks can charge to close your account either. I am going to my bank this morning to close my account and I have only had it open since May 07 so i am hoping they do not charge me. I have decided after reading all of this I would rather pay with money orders these days. I don't think any bank account is safe anymore. I don't want to risk it again.

There are ways to protect your bank account, and yes prepaid cards are good, but I was informed that just as anyother cc or bank account, which is what you basically have with a pp card, if a pdl gets ahold of that number they can try charging it against your debt.
The whole thing is we need to be cautious about how and where we use our information, use secure trusted sites if we are online, not give our information out via phone or internet.
I myself still have my bank account, but applied for a paypal debit card. (you have to be a member for 60 days to apply for one) added my check card as back up funding and now use only my paypal card.
the reason i do this is because paypal seems to be much easier to deal with in correcting errors and supporting you if you should be improperly charged for something, as well as the fact that even if a charge should get on there they can not track back to my bank no matter how hard they try.

i had the same company debit my account this am. i called and spoke to a guy named dave who said that they got muy account information fron an appliacation i made online. i told him i have never authorized shw to debit my account. i went to my bank and file a fraud alert along with a stop pay and stopped all future transactions with this company. i also filed a complaint with the ftc. under the law even if a company has an authorized debit they have to send you a letter of intent to deposit. unless they have express authorization from you to debit they can't debit.

Thank you, collectorlady! Was it SHW that debited your account? Oh, I see now it was. So did you actually call the company and actually speak to an actual person? Did you get the "run around"? I would not give my name to this so called "person" out of fear. I'm glad to see I am not the only one who is dealing with this guy.

again the debited $20 out of my account and this time couldnt make a stop payment so they got my $20. So i had to open a new bank account. But if this happens to my new bank account i am just going to use money orders. also the one who is thinking about getting a western union card, beware every time you take out money of your card you will be charges $4 thats why i cancelled my card dut to that. I dont trust anyone with my money anymore except myself and my husband.

This is getting ridiculous. I would love to know how these ***holes are getting people's new account info. It makes me sick how they can destroy people's lives. We are all honest people trying to make a living and get ahead in the world, and then we go and do something stupid like a pdl and then our whole world crumbles right in front of our eyes. I for one am going to fight back. I do not like seeing others get hurt or screwed over. We all need to ban together to get these pdl's stopped. So many people are getting sucked in. it is scary. What is this world coming too. Sorry i just needed to vent. Thanks for listening.

I had the same problem. I had a $400 w/d taken from my bank account and the bank gave the same phone number 18005968544.

I called and left a message and someone called me back right away from 913-312-1003.

I asked them why they took money out of my account, they advised me that it was for a loan I had in defualt from a previous payday loan and because I applied for a new loan and gave the new checking account number on the loan application that gave them permission to take money out of my account.

Thankfully the money was returned back to them, I asked them to refund the fees associated with my overdraft that happened when they took money out and they stated they would be able to refund the fees as long as we are filing bankruptcy which we are in that process.

They do have an 800-489-0979 that you can call and they should be able to give you why the money was taken out of your account.

I know that if you are writing personal checks at places like walmart, grocery stores, etc. they usually scan your check thru the register whiches actually verifies if you have written any bad checks, and from my experience, not only do these check systems have your account number but they have all your personal info. I can look up your name in my check system at my job and then i sort thru the results and figure out which one is you and bingo I will have your last known account number..sick huh? My advice dont write checks!

chillee-They applied for another pdl..thats how they got the account number. Yes, when you write checks, merchants use CL Verify and other systems to confirm your account status and ensure that you are not in the system for bad checks....

And I would have to second ladybugs comment...if that was you posting (the Guest),thanks for the info, the tone in which you wrote that was a bit scary...for a moment I thought you worked for a PDL. I am sure there are many of us here that work in a place that has access to personal, non-public data protected by the Gramm-Leach Bliley act.

This sounds vaguely familiar of something that happened to me. A collection agency for my chiropractor (who kept refusing to send me a bill for everything I owed.) took an old check or something from my chiropractor and took money out of my parent's acct. without anyone's permission! Scared the crap out of us! Then they called and threatened all of us with jail because we had committed "check fraud." I said no, we hadn't, we were just stopping the checks we had never authorized in the first place. The jerk on the phone said, well then how had he gotten our information in the first place? I replied with, I don't know, but you didn't get it from any of us! He still came back at me with, well, he has my information. I told him that was beyond the point because none of us had given him that information and hung up because he was screaming at me. Sorry I'm rambling, and I know this has nothing to do with pdl's, but it scared us half to death and the chiropractor wants me in court Jan.8. (they say that now my mother and I owe them over $21,000.00) These people getting into your account scare me. :( I hope you get it all resolved.
